City biking 1:35:00 [2] 19.0 mi (5:00 / mi) +80m 4:56 / mi

At 6am, down through the city to Soldier Field; from a distance it looks like a flying saucer landed on the Acropolis on the Lakefront...The Mistake on the Lake. Later biking back and forth showing apartments to the few people who didn't go somewhere for Memorial Day.

Running race 1:53:46 [5] 10.0 mi (11:23 / mi) +40m 11:14 / mi

Huge crowds. Ran the whole race with thick crowds; first on two lanes of Lake Shore Drive, and then onto a 6' bike path for the trip back north.

The big finalé in Soldier Field was fun: we were routed in through the bowels of the stadium, running through super-box parking areas, up a ramp, and then out onto the field, just like a Chicago Bear. It was a rush to come out of that dark tunnel and into that huge stadium. And the big surprise was looking up, I could see myself, arms held high, 50' tall, running in front of the pack toward the finish line, on the full-color Jumbotron atop the stadium wall. Cool. My two seconds of fame.

I wanted to beat my 2:05 from last month's Lakeshore 10, and I hoped possibly to break 2 hrs. I was really pleased at the turnaround to realize that both goals were in the bag. I was feeling good, without those three 5-lb bags of sugar that were strapped to my waist a couple months ago...fasting and losing weight in the spring is such a fun pastime.
