Italian Mixed Sprint Relay with Shminty & Yannick. 1st leg, another cool area but had trouble reading the map at the start (messy bent lines, numbers over OOB, lots of controls in small area) so that was game over results wise. When struggling I just went with the majority of pack which fitted with where I thought 1 was (this was actually 11), when they all punched another control way before where I was going I was really confused. Luckily I had the sense to stop and sort myself out. Turned out my 1 had been visible when a few turned right. Obviously I was then off the back (lost over 90secs) so had to run solo without the benefit of pack running. Took a bad route at 13 (10secs+) as thought the pavement was also OOB but ok apart from that. Happy I managed to put the mistake behind me but biggest mistake I've made in a long time and I should really have come back close to the front. Typically the first control was one of the only gaffeled controls! Still had fun in the sun and good training.

Cool down around Dad's course, once again faster than he raced it. Another lesson that especially in these areas just keeping moving in control is actually not slow. Fun, especially when Dad (who was running my course) and I came towards the spectator control together by chance so the pace naturally increased.

Dad asked if I'd go to Italian sprint champs with him as part of his prep for World Masters. I said no as had committed to racing with Kirsty on the Friday. Then Shminty asked if I fancied running with him and Yannick in sprint relay, I looked at flights and realised it wasn't impossible to do both so decided to make the most of my part time life. Arrived home from Cheshire just before midnight, standard post race struggle to sleep. Up just before 4am to fly Edinburgh - Nice, France. Then train through Monaco to Italy by lunchtime. Easy round the sprint I missed this morning, crazy terrain but fun. Ready for some chilling in the sun, nice food and sleep.

Mid Cheshire. Not quite a PB but not a bad effort. Just need to sort out that usual 3-4km (as I was as slow as the hill km) and a PB is there. Good race, hard to pace though and weird racing with so many people again, lots of weaving.

Disappointed to miss out my World Cup goal as had hoped they might not just take 6 to do everything. I know I wasn't quite top 6 in the individual round but thought my knock out performance might have put me in with a shout for that race. Still working out how to race at my full potential especially in individuals so have a couple of races lined up which I'm still going to do for experience, then hopefully try and perform at the British Sprints. Couple of 5kms coming up too then it's on to the Heb training, might yet run the forest tests races as Heb training will suit but will decide nearer the time.

Note

Advised to have my bloods checked just to monitor due to my problems since it hadn’t had it done since 2019. B12 - 608 so within the range (200-2000) so tablets are working but should keep taking them. Folate 6.1.
