shoes: New Balance 750's 2.0

Mens heat 4
1- good, was pretty confident i knew where it was from my descriptions and the blank map.
2- easy, same as 1.
3- slight hesitation but good.
4- good.
5- slightly missed it.
6- ok.
7- ok
8- okay
9- ok
10- wrong route choice as i thought i was going to my number 14.
11- ok
12- ok
13- had to stop as i was leaving as i lost where i was.
14- good.
15- didnt execute my plan as intended so got a bit confused.
16- maybe went the wrong side of the building but only lost 12 seconds on the fastest time.
17- hesitated in the woods and went to the wrong control first.
18- fine.
19- didnt see it to start with but ok.
20- fine.
21- fine.
22- fine.

really happy with this race, made a few small mistakes but nothing serious, 15th in my heat and only 25 seconds off 10th place and 1minute off qualifying for the A final.

Orienteering race 19:29 [4] 3.0 km (6:30 / km)
shoes: Montrail

B - final,
never really got going, quite scrappy throughout and feeling pretty tired so couldnt push as hard as i would have liked. also lost about a minute on the last little loop in the forest. disappointing end to the weekend. but plenty to improve on and an enjoyable weekend in the lakes :)

Warm up/down 25:00 [2] 2.0 km (12:30 / km)
shoes: Montrail

jog to the start and then round the warmup map, then drills etc. also playing mother to ralph as he turned up 1 minute before his start lol

Orienteering race 1:01:00 [3] 4.6 km (13:16 / km) +295m 10:02 / km
shoes: Montrail

my first taste of lakeland orienteering, and i found it rather hard.

1- completely doubted my own navigation and ran round in circles for a bit ~2mins lost.
2- far to far left, lost map contact on the way there and then misinterpreted the contours.~2mins
3- was going straight for it and then veered off again and got confused.~2mins
4- was too high up and ended up looking for it for a fair bit ~1min (already lost 7 minutes!)
5- fine in comparison to 1-4
6- fine.
7- was pretty annoyed by this point and running had slowed right down.
8- okay but slow.
9- struggled to interpret the contours here and so lost some more time ~1min
10- fine,
11- confused in the circle, losing more time.
12- confused again as i was looking at the wrong feature, stood really near it but took a while to find.
13- was going well but changed my mind in close and lost time making a slower route choice.
14- okay other than not being able to stay on my feet through all the felled branches.
15- contours confused me again, thought i was on a good bearing but ended up to low and too far left ~2mins.
16- found it okay, but was slow again making sure i got the feature. would have been good to look across to the other slope to work out where i was going to before moving.
17- fine leg (helped another crying child, i seem to attract them as he ran up a hill (faster than i just had) to ask me for help).
18- okay.
19- okay but cut in a bit early.
20- fine,
21- oh dear... went straight to the control, must have virtually stood on it but not see it and then run round in circles, went from there to the next control and worked back to the same spot, where someone else was luckily punching! ~3mins.
22- already been, so fine.
23- fine.
24- fine.
25- missed to the left to start with but got it quickly after, quite distracted as there were a lot of people about at this point.
26- hesitant but okay.
27- stopped short, was a bit confused by the people running everywhere.
28- fine
29- fine.

started badly which didnt help me, struggled with my navigation in general and the controls seemed to be more hidden than usual but that could just be me being unable to find them, good experience and i want to do more orienteering in the lakes as i think it would improve my navigation a lot.
