Eggli - last day of Swiss O Week :’-( been really tough but so much fun. So tired now. Spent the morning crawling on hands and knees up the slopes, sliding back down them on my bum, knee deep in marshes, getting electrocuted by a fence, & generally just being physically done in. All these hills be killing me. The lady on the water station even took pity on me & walked down the hill to give me a drink hah, I must’ve looked in a bad way. Spent every bit of energy & was still 20mins behind lol.

Rougemont - back in the forest & back to being highly mediocre. No disasters I just can’t orienteer very quickly when it’s tough underfoot, & seemed to spend a long time climbing over logs & sliding down hills & going in slightly the wrong direction.

Walking 1:00:00 [1]

More hills & out of breath. Walked for much longer than this but will just log 1 hour. So much sunshine & also swimming :)

Hornberg - finally a good race! Absolutely loved the area, super runnable hillsides into nice little rocky mazes. Really concentrated on my navigation & could actually see the features without all the trees getting in the way! Didn’t get caught by Simone until number 14 today (8mins) which was a great success. We ran together round the last loop & I actually led & found 2 of the technical controls when she missed them :D so proud of myself for not just following her. We finished together & she gave me a high five! New best life moment haha :D

Col du Pillon / Lac Retaud - “Shortened long distance” lols maybe for everyone else. It was still the highlight of my orienteering life though when I got caught 16(!!) mins by Simone Niggli near number 4 but then she couldn’t find it either & I eventually found it & she was nowhere to be seen, omg. Managed to stay ahead all the way to 6 before she caught up again, yaaas winning. Then she was off up the hill at about twice the speed I could manage so I just carried on doing my thing. Later I was contouring along to number 11 and I heard someone coming up really fast behind me, & it was Simone! Somehow managed to do that section faster than a 23 time gold woc medalist waaaah. Then she was heading into the woods to 12 & I was like nah road is life & then she turned round and came on the road route with me & we ran for a few minutes together & it was the most exciting thing to ever happen. My inner 16 year old fan girl was just like ‘omg omg omg’ haha. Best day ever.

Col du Pillon / Isenau - lol getting my money’s worth today. Had 23 perfect controls & one absolute 20min nightmare in a scratty bit of forest, boooo. Must’ve been within metres of it on numerous occasions but just couldn’t make anything fit or find anything to relocate from. On the positive I did get every control on the open mountain really well :) on the negative tomorrow’s course is back in that forest! Ha

Walking 1:00:00 [1]

Trekking up a mountain, which was definitely hard enough work to make it acceptable to log as training.
Finished the day with a swim in a mountain lake.
