Note

Found a tick when I was cleaning up. Don't forget to check!

Running (dirt) warm up/down 10:00 [2]
shoes: Inov8 ORoc280-A 2013-08

Wore a short sleeved shirt to run in, but my hands were cold when I reached the start despite my sweatshirt. Decided a warm up run would be a good thing today; I usually don't bother with more than a few minutes. Talked with several people on their way to start. :-)

Orienteering race 53:17 [4] *** 3.85 km (13:50 / km) +56m 12:54 / km
spiked:9/12c shoes: Inov8 ORoc280-A 2013-08

BrownX day 1, 3.2 km, 65m climb nominal
Bear Brook State Park near Hookset, NH
Sunny, with temps in upper 50s warming into the 60s

Did well on most of them, with a bit of help on some because Bob Bullions was just ahead from 4 to 6, and many folks were in the area for 8 (shallow reentrant in the green/pine saplings). Biggest error was to 3 where I didn't see the spur from the hillside above it and went too far east, correcting from the depression due east of the saddle; lost several minutes. Not quite clean to 1 but found it without too much trouble when I was on the hill; at 8 I was in the area but not seeing it until the crowd came through (there must have been a half dozen) to help me out.

Nice course, though it used a small portion near thr east edge of a large map.

Orienteering 34:40 [1] *** 2.0 km (17:19 / km) +46m 15:32 / km
spiked:8/8c shoes: Trail NB 704 8.5D

Model map of Bear Brook State Park in NH with 8 available controls in a small area. Decided to walk and look around rather than trying to do it at race pace (whatever that is). :-) Mid 60s and mostly sunny. Checked out the levels of green; dark is small saplings, and I think the others seem to indicate visibility more than runnability. Boulders hard to see because they're largely moss-covered and they blend in.

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

Extra focus on legs with lots of stepping, and 2 x pliƩ squats. A small class; only 6 students, so I guess Jennifer thought she needed to work us (long-time class members) hard.
4 PM

Walking 40:08 [3] 2.5 mi (16:03 / mi)
shoes: Trail NB 704 8.5D

Distance estimated from my total time, as I neglected to bring my FR along. Pine Bush @ Madison Ave Ext. while Glen ran trails. Parts of some of the trails were quite sandy (loose, like at the beach). Though I saw fresh horse hoof prints, I never saw the horse (until back at the parking area); just one runner with two well-behaved dogs (I.e., they ignored me).

Pilates class 55:00 [1]

I never got out for my walk yesterday, and need to get cracking on finishing a small wall hanging for my quilt meeting tonight (which is what kept me from walking yesterday).

Class was good and challenging. We used only weights as our supplemental tool today. Ellen will sub for Mary on Thurs. so I may skip the Pilates class....
11 AM

Fitness equipment (elliptical) 23:00 intensity: (2:00 @1) + (21:00 @3)
shoes: Sauc.Shad.6000#7-2012H

Hill interval program, while watching CNN and Fox subtitles about the non-vote in Congress because Boehner can't convince the tea partiers to be somewhat reasonable.

Pulldowns (10!) and adductors.

Note
(rest day)

Noticed a "pirate ship" in a harbor along QEW on our drive back to the US yesterday. Here's some interesting information about it. (We didn't notice it Thursday on the drive out because it was dark.)

Skipped exercise class today -- rather tired and decided I'd rather have a more leisurely breakfast. "Will walk later today to get the kinks out."

Edit: Or maybe not. :-)

Orienteering race 1:21:02 [4] *** 5.42 km (14:58 / km) +141m 13:14 / km
spiked:10/10c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #3

Mineral Springs map again, using areas to the north and east of where we were yesterday. Temps in 60s following a morning shower; more rain held off until most folks were done and starting to depart. Glen had an excellent run today. :-)

A better day today, finding them all where I wanted them to be. Maybe could have done some micro route choices better but would only have saved a minute or two overall. More tough hills out there including from the second-last control to the Go. Lack of speed work shows, based on time behind Sandy and Mary Jo who both had great runs.

Added FR track. QR to follow.
