Orienteering 1:50:00 [0] *** 5.33 km (20:38 / km) +223m 17:04 / km
spiked:1/1c shoes: Trail NB 706 9D # 2

Hauling water to first water control on the Billygoat, with Sue and Phil H-T. Sue was left on the trail about 200m from the control; she didn't go all the way as she's running in the event. Phil will be handing download. It was great having their help to get the 7 gallons up plus cups and trash bag. We took our time and had a nice time catching up on news.

EDIT: Added distance from FR plus a bit at the beginning when I forgot to start my watch until a bit up the trail. First lap should have an additional 0.14 km; FR time includes standing around talking under the liftgate of my Honda talking when it started to rain.

Temp in the low 70s when we started dropping to 60s as the rain came in. Just a few brief, light showers on the hike; the continuous rain started just before we got back to the parking lot, and got heavier as they day progressed.

Walking 20:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 #6 - H

To the coffee shop from the courthouse and back with a side trip to CVS, 2 blocks farther away. I can make it to the coffee shop in less than 5 minutes. Too bad their Internet wasn't working this time.

I read a book instead. It's starting to get more interesting; called The Forgotten Garden. Most guys probably wouldn't be interested.

Note

I need to report for Jury Duty, so no exercise class. We'll see if I will be released and have time to exercise later in the day. I've only been called one other time where I needed to report; they seated a jury before calling my name.

Note

Didn't ask to be excused this morning, so I get to return at 3:30--several hours to kill, some of which was lunch (Cascades in Hudson), some now at a coffee shop with wifi
:-) , and then maybe some more walking before reporting back.

Note

Phooey--I was chosen for the jury. Hope it's finished before Billygoat weekend or I'll be pulling my hair out in the evenings.

Walking 16:15 [2]
slept:8.0 shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 #6 - H

Over to, and up and down 3 blocks on Warren Street in Hudson. Will probably head down to the park by the river before returning to the courthouse later.
2 PM

Walking 28:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 #6 - H

Walked from the 400 block down to the Hudson River park and then back to the courthouse. It was almost 5pm before we were called in for voir dire.

Pilates class 55:00 [1]

Yay for Mary being back. We only used weights as extra tool, but that (and planks) were enough to make my shoulder/neck area achy. Didn't feel up to further exercise so I just did some extra stretching.

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]
slept:7.0

New session. Small world story: another woman in the class told me she knew another orienteer, who is engaged to a friend of hers. That orienteer is Steve T. of long-standing Billygoat fame. She said Steve was coming to stay with her friend in a couple of weeks (so I found out before he actually registered). :-)

US champs Middle Brown at Chattahoochee Bend SP

Well, except for a major brain freeze at 5, I think I did the best I could on this map. It's just that 5 was a real doozie--almost 23 minutes to Sandy's ~3. FR later will tell the sorry tale. :-)

I think #1 might have been farther from the stream than mapped, but I got there okay; slow to 2; bopped around the rocks a bit at 3 but I was in the circle. Catching up to people at 4, then I ran off down the hill towards 5 but didn't do too well recognizing things and wasted an inordinate amount of time until I finally found it. Bummed; figured I'd end up in last place. Managed to pull off second, though, by three minutes. Natalia redeemed herself by doing well in F50, I think.

Congrats to Sandy on her champs medals this weekend!

EDIT: FR shows 4.915km covered (on a 3.2km course!), 194m climb
Ugly.
