Hiking (snowshoes) 47:56 [3] 2.32 mi (20:40 / mi)
shoes: Trail NB 706 9D # 2

Three loops of the snowshoe trail we created last weekend. First lap was a figure 8 starting counter clockwise, 2nd was figure 8 in the opposite direction, and 3rd was counter clockwise all the way around.

White cardinal was at the bird feeder at the end of my 1st lap and took some time to find shelter -- cheeky thing!

Light snow (as it's been practically all day, though we only have about 1/2-1" of new snow), ~25F, mostly calm winds. Nice.

Note

Forgot to note lap splits were pretty consistent (1st was a little faster -- more energy?) -- 15:27, 16:15, 16:14.

Pilates class 55:00 [1]

At the Y.

Was going to supplement it with a snowshoe around the yard but got sidetracked working on a very large crossword puzzle with my son. :-) Maybe tomorrow.

Note

This article is somewhat depressing. What can the average joe do about it?

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

In Chatham, with a late start (9:30 class; we warmed up and then started the aerobic/step/strength section at 9:55!!). Monday's class had been cancelled due to an emergency the trainer (Jen) had to attend to with her horses. I could feel the leg muscles I worked yesterday on the treadmill. Left arm/shoulder weak and have to be careful with it.

Pilates class 55:00 [1]

At the Y. More beginners than usual in class today -- someone said it's January syndrome. :-) Used Thera-bands for added resistance. Shoulders sore and hard to hold my head up for some moves.

At least the new injuries keep my mind off the old ones!

Walking warm up/down (treadmill) 16:30 [2] 1.0 mi (16:30 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 # 3

Hiking hills (treadmill) 31:30 [3] 2.0 mi (15:45 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 # 3

Inclines set anywhere between 3-6.5%. 1st mile was a 6%, then lowered it for a half mile, then up again.

Adductors, 20x75lbs.

Hiking (snowshoes) 34:55 [3] 1.52 mi (22:58 / mi)
shoes: Trail NB 706 9D # 2

[My warm-up was moving wood from the wood cart into the house, about 12 minutes. Used right arm instead of left to carry the log carrier. I've been using the left arm for years because of an old injury to the right shoulder, but recent minor injury to left put the burden back on the right side for now. I also lightened up the loads a bit more than usual. :-) ]

Snowshoed in meadows out back. I tried to use the trail Glen broke yesterday but couldn't find it about 1/2 the time due to drifting, so was slow, breaking trail. Jogged where I could (downhill) but otherwise this was a hike. Trying to see if I'm in shape for upcoming snowshoe races...

I used XC ski poles to be sure I didn't lose my balance. I don't need any more falls until I heal from the previous ones. Not that I XC ski anymore...

Walking 41:30 [2] 2.25 mi (18:27 / mi)

After shoveling snow by mailboxes (some plow driver was nice and only left about 2' in front of the boxes). which was fairly light and fluffy, considering it was plowed snow.

Walked from the house to the post office, back to the intersection and then down to the bridge over the Berkshire Spur, then home. Time estimated because I didn't use a stopwatch, but did look at clocks in the house before and after.

We have about 6-7" or so of light fluffy snow -- it's been snowing for the past couple of days, basically, but not very hard. Parts of New England are getting this too, from a low pressure system sitting over northern Maine and New Brunswick.
