Morning joggeroo pre-conference from Dan's along Phinney, HR from Garmin is wrong for first bit, first time that's ever happened... Fun to spectate all the new-to-me shops along the road, Seattle sure does have high density of coffee places!

(rest day)

Gave my 5 min talk at the big astronomy meeting out here in Seattle, a few good q's and people interested, good stuff. Psyched to have my bit over and get to be unstressed for listening to other people's work!

Wow, fantastic ski on really great trails and snow at Callaghan Valley in Whistler! Wonderful sunny day, not too cold, and neat to ski where the Olympics just were. Skied the cross-country loop, then the biathlon one, then ran into Magnus and did the nordic combined with him, before heading off to do my double pole.

Ski-O 1:26:27 intensity: (26:27 @2) + (30:00 @3) + (20:00 @4) + (10:00 @5)

Ski-O at Whistler, thanks to planning and organizing by Adrian! The "Swedish Misery Course" 15.6k long, 2 sides of the map at Lost Lake, with some bits blanked out to make you concentrate more, and some bits on narrow snowshoe trails to make things as most like narrow Swedish trails as possible, although the snowshoe trails were even more difficult, actually!

Off the start, tried some snowshoe trails to 1, which turned out to not be the smartest plan, but I was nervous about going through a blanked out bit to start. Also tried to go to number 15 from number 5(=16), but didn't get quite as far as Charlotte, who went all the way up the big hill before realizing, whoops! Other than that, hesitated on a long let 7 to 8, confused by the blanking-out, and not feeling totally at home at one junction, passed by friend Shara, who gets props for being way more together on that part than me!

First long ski-o of the season, and enough with the blanking out and occasionally snowshoe trails to have to be focused and thinking all the time, awesome!
6 PM

XC skiing - dp 1:04:37 intensity: (27:16 @1) + (32:51 @2) + (4:12 @3) + (18 @4) 9.59 mi (6:44 / mi) +125m 6:29 / mi
ahr:133 max:167

Double pole, double pole, double pole! Didn't get much in this morning, so did a good dp session around some of the flatter trails, but still some hill, and did the spastic narrow-trail skate up those. Still had mapholder, so kept on following where I was, picking out features here and there, got more difficult as sun set.

Mmm. Slightly too much to do this morning, so no workout. Now on way Westward to conferences in Seattle-Victroria-New Mexico, with a first quick detour to some ski-o in Whistler, brought my passport this time. =)

Rollerskiing 1:20:21 intensity: (13 @0) + (29:37 @1) + (45:16 @2) + (5:15 @3) 11.24 mi (7:09 / mi) +146m 6:52 / mi
ahr:133 max:164

A River Rd. rollerski at 15F, think that's the coldest so far... anyways, went out, intending to double pole out for 45 min, then turn around and skate back in. But elbow started feeling niggly at 36 min, so converted to no poles early.

At least had some fun maps to look at! Peter brought some printed ski-o maps over last night, so looked at Lygna Nord on the way out, was interesting with lots of little trail networks, although a bit distracting to have whoever's QR track over the trails in places. Way back, looked at Pwll Du, a fantastic old-mining area in Wales (foot-o). Interesting to look at the map now, because when I ran there, had only orienteered for a few months, and didn't use all those fantastic nobbly contours- would love to go back and give another try!

Easy-peasy morning run around Emily Dickinson loop. My hamstring twinged yesterday (just walking uphill to bus...), so wanted to just be easy on it today. Gorgeous gorgeous fiery sunrise early on!

Brought along map from last Friday, thinking about how it would look without all that snow, focused on trying to not slow down while running to look at detail, but wasn't running too fast to start with...
