run race 19:32 [5] 3.1 mi (6:18 / mi)
shoes: Nike Dragonfly

scuffed race. Upset that conference means running for place not for pace bc it always ends up screwing a couple people. Today I got screwed. Really wanted to break 19 today (91s for the 400s) but the lead pack just wanted to win, so they opened in 95s. Ran a full mile with that pack at 95s and knew at that point that I wouldn't meet my goal. After a mile, they dropped it very quickly and I got left behind. Body metronome was pretty stuck on 95s.

Ran far too comfortable for what I was trying to do, just couldn't settle in to find that next gear

Frankly very upset with this race bc I know I could've run better if it had been run more competitively instead of as a game

2 x {400 @ 5k, 400 @ 3k, (2 x 400 @ mile) }
88, 86, 81, 84, 87, 85, 84, 83

ended up going fast on the 5k and 3k reps and slow on the mile reps but it's whatever, Ryan was fine with it as a workout. I ran all of these identically. I hit 40 at almost every 200 then died to varying degrees on the second 200. I'm not happy with it as a workout, I felt very heavy and could tell I was heel striking to try to prevent the pain in my foot from flaring. But as we all know, heel striking just puts me at risk of other injuries, primarily injuries to my already struggling shins.

Currently feeling very scared that I peaked too early. I can tell that it's just poison that my brain is feeding me and I'm eating by the spoonful bc I'm hurting and it's easy to catastrophize. I went to Ryan after the workout to try to get some Ryan wisdom to fight the poison but started crying (big cringe, thanks for that hormones) and I think that scared him more than he'll admit. But irregardless, he truly believes that I have not peaked early. And furthermore, he thinks I'll pr on Saturday.

Ryan stands by that since cross country (SINCE CROSS COUNTRY), I have not pr'd at a meet just 2 times. Ryan actually says 1 bc he doesn't count the tempo 5k workout. The other being my mile at Coast Guard. It's weighing on me that I've had as close to a 'perfect' year as is realistically possible. I don't want to ruin it this close to the end.

Sorry for the yap, thanks if you read it. It's giving big "Strava is running Instagram, Attack point is running diary" energy today. I needed to muse about this or it would eat me alive

run warm up/down 17:04 [3] 1.79 mi (9:32 / mi)

5 PM

run 45:09 [3] 5.18 mi (8:43 / mi)
(injured) shoes: Hoka Mach 5

first solo run in a hot second. Realized how much I needed to think about, or how much I needed to get away from, not really sure which. Either way this felt very nice. I feel like a good preface to my mental state was this was coming off a 10 hour shift and followed by a 15 minute cry.

I spent most of the run musing about my first cross country season and how on Saturday morning practices when I didn't want to go out into the cold the rule I made for myself was I could wear whatever I needed in order to "get out the door." Today was a case of doing what I needed to in order to get out the door. I was severely overdressed (long sleeve + hoodie + gloves + winter hat) but that's what it took today. And once I was out there the gloves and hat came off and I rolled up my sleeves and got it done. A little cry, an excess of clothing and an expectation to just do 3 miles is what it took today and that's ok
