SLR out along the trail. Very chilly out, tights and gloves weather. Legs felt very clunky but aerobically felt decent so we got moving coming back. Shin has been bothering me a little bit ever since the race. Shitting it about the potential of a stressy but will just see what physio says tomorrow. Feel it more walking around then running so that’s probably a good sign.

BIG day of travel yesterday, got back at midnight. Was going to go 10miles but decided to cut down to an hour as it’s going to be a low mileage week anyway. Temperature had dropped by about 15 degrees over the 3 days I’ve been away. Really enjoyed it though, nice and crisp.

Up. Did a half mile tempo which I think I’ll start to do more in future.

Pre-nationals invitational - 196th

The most competitive NCAA race outside of nationals. Stuck to the plan, got out conservative, through the km in 2:53 (ish) and the mile in 4:41. Settled in until 4km then started making moves up the field alongside Chuck the whole way. Picking off about 40 spots in the second half. Legs felt really bad basically from the off but just gave it everything I had. Thought we were much further up the field but then at roughly 4mile I heard someone shout “you’re in 200th”. I honestly thought we were at least 80 places higher.

Crossed the line absolutely spangled in a very underwhelming time. Finished within 5 seconds of Chuck and Matt and 5 seconds ahead of Drew so just about where I expected to be within the Bradley boys just about half a minute slower than expected (all 3 of those boys ran 24:30ish at Missouri). Guess time is a bit irrelevant anyway as it’s cross. Think the hills on the course slowed us more than expected.

Think when you get out slow, you need to be moving up through people the whole race, not just the back half. It was very easy to just sit in with the slower pace and get complacent.

Happy with the effort I gave, not happy with the outcome. Still miles off where I know I can be. Was extremely humbling to finish in the bottom 1/3 of a race and not even have a terrible run. Feel like this is the first time that I’ve hurt properly in almost a year, if I can combine this mental attitude with a pair of legs that actually want to move then we should be in for a good one.

Should have stamped my ticket onto the conference team which is a relief, excited to go again in 2 weeks.

Pre race just running the course. Pretty hot out but race is earlier so temperature shouldn’t be terrible. Really nice course, couple of little kickers but think it should be fast tomorrow. Felt alright, hoping legs decide to show up tomorrow.

Running 3:57 [5] 0.93 km (4:15 / km)
shoes: Dragondos

Strides. Legs not feeling great in the spikes tbh but will hopefully just be able to grind through the initial stages of ligma tomorrow.

Shortened midweeker. Pre-flight down to Tallahassee (Florida). Felt alright, looking forward to Friday.

Running 41:03 [4] 8.44 km (4:52 / km)
shoes: Saucony Endorphin Pro 2

Track: Mile, 8x300m (1’), Mile, 4x300

4:53, 47s, 4:53, 46s

Oh dear, this is not what the doctor ordered. Felt bonked straight from the off. Definitely didn’t eat enough yesterday so that’s most likely the cause. Cut the last set of 300s short but was honestly flagging from the first mile. Probably could have murdered myself and finished the full thing but that would have been silly on race week. Other lads were cruising which made the bonk feel even worse. No stress, had a really good session just before Mizzou and ran really shit there so hopefully the opposite happens here.

Running 14:57 [2] 3.07 km (4:52 / km)

Note
(rest day)

Decided I fancied a jog but then massive thunderstorm rolled in so cba with that. Would have only been a little shake out jog anyway so not worth getting struck by lightning.
