biking 1:00:00 [2]

from the campground down dirt road, then went on mb trail to tie city campground - one last time in the woods. then downhill to Laramie on interstate, and tooling around doing errands, getting ready to catch the bus to denver

orienteering 2:30:00 intensity: (1:00:00 @1) + (45:00 @2) + (45:00 @3)

orienteering off from the start, but passable until 9th control. then my mind went completely, way off course, took me a long time to figure out where i was. Then fatigue and hurt knees slowed me to a walk the rest of the way. One of those days that are so 'bad' from an O point of view, that you just move on, and hope that the time in the woods pays off down the road.

orienteering 1:04:00 [3]

gained momentum even as my knee started hurting more. not so bad at a flat out run, but terrible on choppy terrain and downhills. was able to enjoy some great moments outdoors at the same time, esp. liked finding passages and runs thru the aspens at the river bottoms. Think i was third in 60-64 age group, after Walther S, and Ron B.? actuually 4th - but even tho i am terribly erratic, injured etc. its reasssuring to know i am potentially competitive.

Note

sat this days event out, hoping the knee would be happier if i did. it was a 'runners course' probably the last thing i needed. took pictures at the 7th control instead. it was fun to see the race from that perspective.

orienteering 1:30:00 [3]

not sure about the time, want to forget the dozens of errors i made and just bank on the great experience, a lot of close in controls with detailed rock features. knee hurt but only after an hour or so, so i have to run faster i guess. Good practice.

'might be a positive in keeping me from over-running and under thinking'
....which is exactly what happened to me today as a stretch of faster running was followed by a brain-dead zone of lost time on way to fourth control. I could have just gone where the people were and saved a lot of time, but i wanted to figure out where i was and what i did wrong on my own terms...but still not sure why i ran so far to the right. when i saw all the people heading to the right, a compass bearing might have helped.

maybe good to have easier run for tommorow. soup's patellar ace wrap helped a lot but i keep wondering if i should be running on it at all.

orienteering 57:00 [3]

forgot my exact time, but i was in good company with Mike M and Soup, so i know i did reasonably well. mostly forested course. nice culmination for trip - up close and personal with the land in a new way. Severe knee pain preventing me from cutting loose, which might be a positive in keeping me from over-running and under thinking.

hiking 10:00 [1]

hike on some area trails and then the urge hit me to just cut thru the woods - washed up a bit at a beaver dam

running 30:00 [2]

run a bit, walk a few steps, repeat. knee hurts - cartilage? too many revolutions at high weight?

Note

averaged about 50 miles a day on my bike days with all camping gear over mountain passes. about 750 miles. one result - bunged up knee.
another - i weight less than since junior h.s.!
