Bike to Wiswall to get to the trail head.

Trail running 1:04:04 [3] 4.9 mi (13:04 / mi) +105m 12:16 / mi
shoes: Topo MT3

Littlejohn trails: Slow warm up; then some exploring (slow) to find additional connectors, then a bit of a pick up (mile 4) and some slow down towards the end. Light rain developing.
5 PM

Cycling - Bianci Mt Bike 10:04 [2] 2.0 mi (5:02 / mi) +16m 4:55 / mi

Biking home, now in heavier rain. We need it - yard has turned into a desert.

2 PM

Trail running 1:54:18 [3] 9.69 mi (11:48 / mi) +172m 11:11 / mi

College Woods to Beech Hill, exiting the trails at West Main, then back to CW and home. A longish run on a muggy afternoon. Legs felt heavy at the beginning but losened up later on.

Trail running (Mountains) 3:29:43 [3] 13.72 mi (15:17 / mi) +950m 12:35 / mi
shoes: Topo MT3

6 Peaks of the Belknaps: Rowe, Gunstock, Belknap, Pipers, Klem, and Mack. Very runnable for a good "mountain jog". Weather was fine for summer, albeit quite humid. Overcast during the last 2 hours helped. I stopped for about 3 minutes at 5 of the peaks and also had lunch at Round pond. Time posted is moving time. Nice range of mountains - apart from the top and bottom of Gunstock, all trails were first timers for me. Most of them nice and runnable, and markings and signs were fantastic. With map in hand, I never had to second guess where I was. North piper mt was the most popular: open ledge with great views. Several parties were hanging out there. Another high point was the "panorama" view point of L. Winnipesaukee near the top of Mt. Klem.
Coming down the Round Pond Trail at the end was a prudent choice - near 100% fast running!
I am glad I did this run. A bit of a test for my hip and groin. We'll see later.

10 AM

Trail running 1:24:27 [2] 6.85 mi (12:20 / mi) +136m 11:37 / mi
shoes: Topo MT3

Exploring the Piscassic Greenway trails. Some off-trails wandering looking for connectors. Easy pace. Georgeous day. Weather reminds me of 2018 Jukola.
1 PM

Cycling - Bianci Mt Bike warm up/down 20:00 [1] 2.5 mi (8:00 / mi) +10m 7:54 / mi

Ride to the swim and back.

Swimming 28:00 [3] 0.55 mi (50:55 / mi)

Daily swim w. Nancy. Usual spot in the Lamprey. Nice day, hot in the sun but windy. Water was nicely turbulated, hence cooler than previous days.
5 PM

Cycling - Bianci Mt Bike 56:25 [2] 11.14 mi (5:04 / mi) +160m 4:51 / mi

Around Lee to reach the bread pick-up, and back with a loop. That woke me up after a low-energy afternoon.

Wednesday Jun 24, 2020 #

7 PM

Trail running 37:08 [3] 4.03 mi (9:13 / mi) +60m 8:48 / mi

First cautious run in 4 days - late in the day. The usual around the hole. Slow warm-up during first mile. Then gradually getting into a more serious pace. Hip feels better but not totally healed. A sweaty affair.

10 AM

Cycling - Bianci Mt Bike 1:57:41 [2] 26.34 mi (4:28 / mi) +240m 4:21 / mi

I decided to go for a "southerly" ride which ended up being flatter but more sun-exposed, but that did not matter. There was a good breeze that kept me reasonably comfortable. Encountered some never-seen attractions - Epping Race Way, the Castle educational site that also has a gun shop, and the greyhound race track. Also back and forth between ostentatious housing developments and the opposite. I also eyed the various conservation areas with trail opportunities. Some to explore sometime in the future.
6 PM

Swimming 28:00 [2] 0.5 mi (55:59 / mi)

Usual leisurely evening swim w. N. in the Lampr. Rivah.

11 AM

Walking 39:08 [2] 2.35 mi (16:39 / mi) +46m 15:42 / mi
shoes: New Balance MT 910 sz 9

Swift Walking. Overcast/foggy today so 10 degrees cooler than previous days. Trying to rest my achy hip - see if it helps.
6 PM

Cycling - Bianci Mt Bike 25:00 [1] 3.0 mi (8:20 / mi) +15m 8:12 / mi

Bike to the trail to the Lamprey swim "hole" - and back. W. N. leisurely.

Swimming 25:00 [3] 0.35 mi (1:11:28 / mi)

Water was nice. Serene riverscape. So relaxing. Very chilled on the bike home.

8 AM

Cycling - Bianci Mt Bike 2:22:45 [2] 30.1 mi (4:45 / mi) +420m 4:33 / mi

A "heat ride". Quite pleasant actually. Mostly on secondary roads in the shade. about 3 miles on dirt roads. Stopped for a quick refreshing dip into Swains lake, which gave me some energy on the gradual upill on Hall Rd to Rt 4 high point. My legs felt tired, during the last quarter - would have needed to be fueled, but all I had was a 16oz bottle of water, which I just about emptied. Nice to have all these "country roads" nearby.
5 PM

Swimming 20:00 [2]

Fun swimming w. N. Water was nice, some wind had stirred it up.

7 PM

Trail running 1:02:35 [3] 5.09 mi (12:18 / mi) +130m 11:23 / mi
shoes: Altra gray (Torin 4)

Around the hole late evening. I did not want to go very far, just in case I would get lite-headed from the heat - But actually was not bad at all - a bit slow on the smaller trails, but otherwise kept moving and felt reasonably comfortable in spite of 80 degrees.

Friday Jun 19, 2020 #

7 AM

Trail running 1:22:57 [3] 8.84 mi (9:23 / mi) +85m 9:07 / mi
shoes: Topo MT3

Try to get a run in before the hammering heat kicks in. To CW then W. Foss and to Thompson Forest for a swim in between. After the swim, hobbling home for breakfast. A good workout all together.
8 AM

Swimming 20:00 [3] 0.5 mi (39:59 / mi)

Swim in between the run in the calm and cool river. Lots of pine needles floating on the water - the trees must be shedding in this hot weather. Also emergence of mosquitoes )-:

Thursday Jun 18, 2020 #

Cycling - Bianci Mt Bike 15 [1] 2.5 mi (6 / mi)

Bike to the swim place and back w. N.

6 PM

Trail running 51:59 [3] 6.16 mi (8:26 / mi) +65m 8:10 / mi
shoes: Topo MT3

10k Evening run to W Foss Farm, Thompson House Loop and back. With all the bells and whistles: incl. spaghetti switchback section, obscured obstacle connector and knee high grass. I had good energy, pushing the pace to below 9 / mile. 10 degrees warmer than yesterday but still nice and dry. Tomorrow will be a different story !

Tuesday Jun 16, 2020 #

6 PM

Trail running 40:13 [3] 4.6 mi (8:45 / mi) +75m 8:19 / mi
shoes: Topo MT3

Quick run after a long day working. Conversed with an owl during warmup. Sweet!. (It didn't think so...). Comfortable dry air - pushed the tempo miles 2 - 4. Slow technical trails in College Woods, others were nice and fast.

Monday Jun 15, 2020 #

8 AM

Trail running 1:22:39 [3] 8.27 mi (10:00 / mi) +84m 9:41 / mi
shoes: Topo MT3

Swift trail run on a cool morning. Some slow down on the spaghetti switch backs and then I got stuck in the marshy brush trying to find the connector to the Lawless field. GRRR. Otherwise good moving. Hip is hurting a little bit, but legs feel strong.

3 PM

Cycling - Bianci Mt Bike 1:30:05 [2] 17.37 mi (5:11 / mi) +173m 5:02 / mi

Just went for a bike, first 2.5 miles with Nancy around the block, then on my own without a plan. Eventually thought I could throw in a trail run to add for variety and for loosening up - so I also ended up with a longer loop than anticipated - all the way to the 4-way stop in Nottingham (near Reid's farm) . Perfect weather for it!

Trail running 25:03 [3] 2.53 mi (9:54 / mi) +52m 9:18 / mi
shoes: Topo (black)

Then, onto the Lee Village trails. Quite stiff at the beginning. Feels like triathlon training. But then quickly got into the groove of it...

Cycling - Bianci Mt Bike 14:16 [2] 3.4 mi (4:12 / mi) +34m 4:04 / mi

Then, biking home, pushing it over the Wednesday hills. With an elevation loss, it was quite fast moving.

9 AM

Trail running hills (Intervals) 47:57 [3] 4.17 mi (11:30 / mi) +222m 9:52 / mi
shoes: On Cloud light gray

Hill intervals around the hole. Good training with minimal hip aggravation. Legs felt reasonably strong. 7 x myhill (20m steep), 3 times access road (15 m moderate), 2 x backside long gradual, andn 1 x solar field hill. Cruising in between. Never stopped.

Cycling - Bianci Mt Bike 40:44 [3] 9.14 mi (4:27 / mi) +83m 4:20 / mi

A quick loop before lunch and in between rain showers.
8 PM

Trail running 29:24 [3] 2.64 mi (11:08 / mi) +36m 10:41 / mi
shoes: Topo (black)

I needed to get out for some movement after an on-screen afternoon. After dinner. This actually ended up as a run after warmup - at dusk (8:45 start) with headlamp. Thick humid air, no sound, just sweaty me running in nowhere land.

Walking (last 1.5 miles jogging) 1:16:07 [2] 5.18 mi (14:42 / mi) +83m 14:00 / mi
shoes: New Balance MT 910 sz 9

Exploring the Kingman Farm trails. I have only raced here twice before in gloomy weather. This time I could explore the trails and the terrain and thanks to JIm's basemap I even did a wee bit of orienteering. And the weather was ideal (70F and very breezy). After 3.5 miles I settled into a careful jog which felt good. And up Hicks Hill was almost race-like. Also good to get my heart rate up once a day!

12 PM

Walking 48:04 [1] 3.01 mi (15:58 / mi) +13m 15:46 / mi
shoes: New Balance MT 910 sz 9

Walk to river and back (swim in between). A friendly encounter with a chap on a motorbike just as I came up to the fieldL He asked if motorbikes were allowed on this trail. I laughingly said that I didn't think so - which was obvious when you saw the trail in the woods. Apparently he was from Dover and likes to explore bikable trails in the woods. He seemed to have no clue where he was. I should have promoted map reading, but the conversation turned to other things. He was extremely friendly and considerate.
1 PM

Swimming 20:00 [3] 0.45 mi (44:27 / mi)

My second swim of the season. All the way up to the dock and back. Water is low but on the cooler side. That made me a bit chilled on this cool overcast day.

Walking 1:13:17 [3] 4.57 mi (16:02 / mi) +80m 15:12 / mi

Cycling - Bianci Mt Bike 11:22 [3] 2.54 mi (4:28 / mi) +36m 4:17 / mi

Biking home for lunch.

7 AM

Walking 1:14:53 [2] 5.04 mi (14:51 / mi) +55m 14:22 / mi
shoes: Topo MT3

I ventured out for a "long" tempo walk to CW and around via W Foss Farm. I encountered a couple of 603'ers and stopped for a quick chat. (Kevin S and ?/). I fell into a bit of a jogging trot during the last mile, but was careful not to aggravate anything.

8 AM

Walking 35:19 [1] 2.01 mi (17:34 / mi) +32m 16:44 / mi
shoes: On Cloudflow dark grey

A short walk, easy pace around the hole. I heard a couple of coyotes yapping as walked along the lower field at the end of access road, just behind the hickory trees in the woods, but I did not see anything. Had to get home before 9 am.

9 AM

Walking 34:27 [2] 2.6 mi (13:15 / mi) +35m 12:43 / mi
shoes: On Cloudflow dark grey

Speed Walking today, mostly on wider trails and some pavement. This is a real workout, and mentally tough to maintain if you are not used to it. Got me sweating on this warm and humid morning.

Thursday Jun 4, 2020 #

7 AM

Walking 48:14 [1] 3.01 mi (16:01 / mi) +42m 15:22 / mi
shoes: Topo (black)

Morning walking seems to be beneficial for my hip. Also a good habit, very pleasurable and an opportunity to observe nature. Today I looked at tree species and noticed stands of (shagbark) hickories. Interestingly the town's conservationists have marked some mature trees as "invasive". I wonder why.

5 PM

Walking 40:35 [1] 2.42 mi (16:46 / mi) +31m 16:08 / mi
shoes: New Balance MT 910 sz 9

Another stroll in the woods. Rain started in the last 5 minutes so I bee-lined to get home.

Stationary bike 15:00 [2] 3.0 mi (5:00 / mi)

Then a short round of stat. biking before dinner. Hip felt good afterwards.

Tuesday Jun 2, 2020 #

8 AM

Walking 51:35 [1] 2.49 mi (20:43 / mi) +39m 19:45 / mi
shoes: New Balance MT 910 sz 9

Yesterday's walk made my hip feel better. Hence another one. Saw 12 lady slippers, and stirred up a barred owl that was munching on something on the ground. Explored some old trails that have become somewhat indistinct in the Colasante area.

6 PM

Walking (Rehab) 28:42 [1] 1.48 mi (19:23 / mi) +14m 18:51 / mi

Rehab walk. Around the hole. Woods are mysteriously lovely on this cold evening. Nobody around for a change.
