Roller Skiing 1:15:00 [4]
3 x Bear Cub loop, skate. 14:00, 13:42, 13:22. Raining - pavement very slow but at least air is clear enough to not worry about inhaling smoke. Now realize how much Tuesday's MTB crash shook me up as upper body is quite stiff and sore, a couple of hours after finishing. One rib in particular - must have bruised it. But otherwise OK - I was lucky.
Trail Running 1:00:00 [2]
Easy run in H's Wds. Cold and wet but thankfully the air was quite clear and smoke hazard nearly non-existent. Took a quick trip down near Saratoga Springs this morning - only 90 minutes south but I could smell the smoke once I left the Northway. Much better up here for now.
Moutain Biking 1:30:00 [3]
Craigwood Trails. Spectacular crash on a steep switchback - not sure what happened but I flew over the handlebars and luckily landed further down on the trail so no rocks or trees involved. Was pretty shaken up but finished the route and iced a few sore spots when I got home. We'll see how I feel tomorrow. Very dark and hazy outside- like 8 pm - with air quality alerts since yesterday. Contacts in Ottawa tell me there's a strong smell of smoke and OOC has cancelled their event tonight but no smell here so I guess it's not that bad and light outdoor activity is OK. Rain has been predicted since this morning and is yet to arrive but hopefully it will clear the air when it finally comes. Very bad fire situation up there including areas planned for the next NOCs west of Ottawa.
Roller Skiing 2:00:00 [2]
Skate, Hardy Rd. route
Orienteering race 1:15:00 [3]
Ottawa OC club race at Foley Mt. Middle course, Long Advanced - 4.1 km which was way shorter than usual because of relays to follow. Actual distance 4.46 km; time 1:19:??. Most rugged terrain I've ever raced in - not just a few sections but the entire course. Lots of downfall plus loose rock which was difficult to spot underfoot. Actually did very little running as I wanted to preserve my ankles and not get a branch in the eye. Very technical course with minimal route choice but I was quite happy with overall result. Map scale 1:10000 but there was WAY more detail than shown on the map. A control in a reentrant on top of an open rocky section could mean any one of several so lots of looking around once I'd found the major feature. Ended up with the AcroSport gang plus a Ukranian - 3 guys plus Caroline et moi. We all met up at control #1, from which all the guys dashed off and I figured I'd never see them again. But coming into #2 there they were all running back and forth, trying to locate the control. And that went on exactly the same for the next 17 controls until they broke the pattern at #19 and sprinted off down the trail to the finish. Lots of bugs but lots of fun!
