pine trees are an invasive species and so not protected under the native species act. ranger would not mind indeed.

It would depend whether the area is actively being forested for the pine trees or not

Reminds me of the early 1990s incident where half a hectare of young pine trees disappeared overnight from one of the remoter parts of Uriarra Forest out the back of Canberra. That incident was most memorable for hearing a news report which began "Christmas trees with an estimated street value of...." (I've forgotten the exact number, but it was sufficiently low to suggest that as criminal enterprises go it was a good deal less lucrative than the equivalent quantity of amphetamines).
