The Sprint at Ratlum Mountain will take place this Sunday, 6/12 (see the WCOC website). It will consist of two parts, a prologue and a chase. Winner on combined time, with a few special rules. This counts as one sprint for the sprint series. Lengths are 1.5K and 1.7K respectively. Run the prologue when you get here. The chase will start soon after all the prologuers are back, but no later than 3pm.
Special rules:
1. The chase will have a maximum starting gap of 60 seconds. That is, if Runner A has a prologue time of 10 minutes, and Runner B is next best at 11:30, he starts one minute behind Runner A, and everyone else moves up accordingly.
2. First runner back in the chase wins! In the example above, if Runner B catches Runner A, he can win, even if Runner A has faster combined time. All other places are on combined time. If you get here too late for the chase, you can still run both races, but the best you can do is second place.
3. If you run only one race, you can still get sprint points, but you come after all runners with two races.

Winners, in addition to 30 points, will be awarded the coveted Ratlum laurel wreath.

Whew! After test driving the courses, the director has concluded that the gnarliness factor of the chase course is such that the sprint points will be awarded based on results of the prologue only. The chase is still out there, and available to be run, but it seems gnarly enough that only the hardiest laurel wranglers will be advised to attack it. Kind of fun, though. Just don't expect to do it at 7 minutes a K. If there's enough interest, it will be run as a chase, otherwise on regular interval starts. Special awards to top male and female finishers.

OK, the two-part sprint is on again. I hung some controls in friendlier spots and I think you guys can do it.
