swimming 30:00 [3] 0.8 km (37:30 / km)
Lunchtime swim at the White Horse Leisure Centre with colleagues.
Managed 4 * (4 breastroke, 2 backstroke) lengths, then practised my front crawl for 8 lengths, focussing on my breathing and in particular not taking the next stroke until my head was back in the water (i.e. leaving my leading arm out in front), so I wasn't rushing the stroke. I found I'd swim 3 strokes, take a breather (pant 3 times until my breathing was back to normal) and then swim the next 3 strokes. I'd almost come to a stop during the breather, but I'd get going again on with the next 3 strokes. I still can't see myself putting it together in a smooth stroke, without the need to gasp for breath every 3 strokes. When running I can 'pant' all the time, not have to save it up for every 3 strokes. I don't understand how you can swim faster, so you need to breathe more heavily, and still manage to get enough breath in the short time you have between strokes when swimming front crawl continuously.
Came out deaf in one ear (my right) and therefore off-balance for some time afterwards.
