Easy running 13:30 [1] 1.3 km (10:23 / km) +175m 6:12 / km

Registration to the start at Big Basin.

Warmup 1:00 [1]

Stretching.

Orienteering 1:36:00 [3] 9.0 km (10:40 / km) +370m 8:51 / km
ahr:160 max:174 spiked:9/19c

BAOC B meet at Big Basin—Blue. It was almost the same course (length, included) as the second day of the 1998 A meet when I beat James by 20 minutes. I can see now, why. Doug put controls into the middle of just about every 1998 leg, and thus gave us a tour of the redwood wonderland—there were few map corrections for in-between controls in 1998. I had Van on my tail through about half-way, and then I couldn't even keep up with him as I tried to make sense of the map, and usually couldn't.

Easy running 1:16:50 [2] 15.3 km (5:01 / km) +470m 4:21 / km

Home to Rancho Point 2 (home to Rancho is 2.6 km, +330'/–200'—re-measured from USGS, switchboard.com, and how it felt running, and corrected the 24AUG2002 log entry). Then Rancho 2VWUTS6RPUWV2 and back home. Only went so far because I missed the turn back on PG&E trail at Point T.

Easy running 9:49 [2] 2.0 km (4:55 / km)

Warmup at DeAnza. After dark, alone.

Warmup 5:00 [1] 0.1 km (50:00 / km)

Stretching.

Long intervals 29:14 [4] 6.0 km (4:52 / km)
ahr:159 max:184

4×1200 with 400 m rest. Plan was 5 or 6. The first two went just the way I wanted. Then, an atrocious one, without any change in effort or the way I felt. I was so upset that I was going to quit right after it, but after a lap jog, did another one out of an experimentalist's interest. It was just as bad: 4'07 4'11 4'24 4'25. I went home.
I was not tired or feeling particularly interesting. My best guess is that the effects of rogaines are somewhat cumulative; I did not see this drop-off in speed after the July one, but maybe two rogaines in 7 weeks start to add up to some dead mitochondria. My next best guess is that it has something to do with all the interesting pharmaceuticals I have been trying in the past couple of weeks (all legal, in case you wondered).

Note

Not running today was probably good. Tired and sleepy, but got a lot of real work done.

Note

The trip back was looong: BTVBOSSLCSEASJC. Mucho miles, and I got a lot of map analysis done. Surprised to still have memories of the 1997 SLOC rogaine, for example.

Ran to the barn from the relay start/finish field and back, to get team entry forms for my announcing stunt.
