bhollow TH to Terraces t Bowman Fork trail to 9000' ridge for a view of Gob Knob and Mt Raymond. Ran about 1/2mi out, then back on Alex. ridge trail, which is overgrown then snowy. I lost the trail but due to my 50-60% confidence in my navigation skills, I turned back and returned to the car the way I came. I got in an extra 1/2 mi or so early on when I ran a couple dogs home to Porter Fork. Their owner stopped me on my way up to Terraces and asked to keep an eye out for them. It counts as a good deed if the dogs stayed at home...I'll never know. But, I actually just followed them.

Anyway, legs felt pretty tired from riding the bike yesterday. Whoops. Cool to see a new trail though, had never been on the bowman fk trail.

Got to bed late b/c we watched a movie. Ate too much for dinner too. Need to take a nap.

Just wanted to get out in the heat a little, see if I could make it longer than 12 minutes (length of my last ride). Just easing back into it a little. I'm definitely psyched to get away from people and pavement tmw morning.

Fat today from 2 big pieces of cake last night.
Mill D to deso lake to the ridge, and then bushwacking around above the snow a little on the ridge. Felt rad at the beginning but kinda fell out of a flow once we hit all the snow. Whatever. Good to get above 9700' and out of Mill Creek Canyon. Tons of people heading up as we were coming down.

Busy in the canyon today.

This is my biggest running training week ever. 83 miles for the week and 98 over the past 8 days. I've been feeling really good and staying psyched. So, I feel like I'm rounding a hump, so to speak, in increasing my miles and vert. Hopefully, that bodes well for good jogs at Katchina Mosa and Wasatch.

Ate so much last night (burger, fries, 3 pc pizza) but had not stomach issues. Legs definite;y don't feel peppy on uphills but generally not bad despite miles and vert since last Saturday.

Up west face of Grandeur (2.38mi in 73:47), down church fork to pipeline, down r.snake gulch back to car on the road. Was going to do the Fun Run loop but didn't want to be on high alert on the last 2 or so miles. Saw 2 big f'ing rattlesnakes (1 on grandeur west face, 1 on pipeline), 3 footers, I think.

Legs felt awesome on climb. Moved a lot more slowly and timidly after I saw that snake though. Wuss. Mostly keeping an eye out for B who was behind.

Ran last 5 miles in pretty warm temps in the sun and didn't feel too bad. Solid run.

Did a fast finish on the last .3mi home to try to turn legs over a little, followed by easy .4mi jog to get hr below 130. Maybe get out w/ B later.

Started the day by waking at 4 and not being able to fall asleep.

The run was this:
bhollow TH, down rd to r.snake gulch, up to Pipeline, up and down Grandeur, to b.hollow TH via Pipeline to meet Big Plane, and then Pipeline to Lambs Canyon pass, down to Elbow Fk to Terraces trail, back down rd to bhollow TH

Basically felt like garbage the first 3 hours (good mental training, I guess), and then got better for the last bit after coming down from lambs. Felt the worst I've felt all year on Grandeur to be met on summit by 5 humans and 5 dogs off leash. Ugh.

Had trouble keeping the hr down but just going for time on my feet. Hopefully, after an easy week next week I'll be able to absorb what's been a lot of climbing for me. tbd. Fun to get out w/ BP for a couple hours.

Jog/ hike up Deso past overlook to Thayne's connector, down Thayne's Canyon. Had hoped to get all the way to Porter Fk but after going about 1.mi past jct w/ Thayne's, I decided not to. Quite a bit of snow up there. Epic descent down Thayne's- it was either post hole to the knee or slide on ice. Weird conditions. I also saw a freshly severed deer leg on the trail. I was waiting to get trapped in an Ewok net, or something. Weird vibe up there this AM, felt like I was being hunted. I had to stop for a second and get my sh*t together. Kinda funny. Feet were soaked and fingers were frozen. I fell like 6 or 7 times on snow, mud, roots, rocks. Jeez.

1h 47m to go ~5.6mi

Refilled a bottle and jogged to church fk to Pipeline to b.hollow TH, then down on the rd. Ran into Mark Y and ran the last mile or so on the rd with him. Nice to chat w/ him.

Mellow jog from b.hollow TH to elbow fk, up and down Mt. Aire, then back down canyon on the elbow fork/ terraces trail to terraces picnic area, down on the rd back to b.hollow TH. My legs were cooked, except for maybe about 2 miles total (not in a row) of feeling OK. I'd never run the elbow fk to terraces trail before. It was awesome. Once I got back to the car I ran out and back on the pipeline trail to hit 10mi for the day.

If I don't take tmw off completely, I probably won't run longer than 30min or so.

Felt psyched after 1st mi (which was flat to gradual downhill to significant downhill) under 6min. Last miles were obviously not as fast with having to come back up the hill at the end of mile 1 to finish mile 2. Last 1.1 had gradual down to decent uphill grade for last 500m or so. Jeez. Couldn't believe how hard I was breathing that last .1mi.

Solid workout. Achieved my goals of sub 19:30, and (based on 2010 results) top 20 OA, and top 3 age group. I'm interested in (not necessarily psyched) doing more 5Ks to try to see how fast I can go. I like seeing the sub 6min/ mile split. Something to work on.

Another morning in Millcreek. 4th day in a row I've brushed my teeth at a trailhead- sweet.

Only 4mi (but 2300' of climb) in first 67 minutes b/c I trudged up Thayne's cyn from Deso TH for as long as seemed prudent. Hit snow at .8mi but kept hoping it'd disappear. Nope. Back at the car, changed into a s/s shirt, refilled bottles and head down rd to church fork then up Grandeur (48:48 from trail jct to summit, avg hr= 145). After descent ran on Pipeline to burch hollow TH and then last mile on the road back to the car.

Awesome, cool morning. Legs felt pretty good. Again, keeping it slow and mostly below 145bpm. I can feel my climbing legs coming on though, like my legs want to run all the ups. Patience.

First 4.16mi in 67min b/c of an atttempt to go up Porter Fork from Burch Hollow TH. Hit a bunch of snow at 2mi(?), and then bushwacked around. Got back on the trail, then lost it again. Whatever, got 1400' of climbing out of it. Jogged back down to the rd, and then on the rd to Deso TH (5.2mi), then up to SLC Overlook plus about another .5mi past that (7.7mi). Never been on that section of the trail before- really cool up there. Then, I just turned around and retraced my steps to the car at burch hollow TH. Might get out w/ B this evening for a few miles.

Again stuck for the most part to 145bpm or lower, which is keeping me slow. But, I've been feeling like I could easily stay out each day a lot longer, which is how I want to feel. I'll have my chance to redline it on sat. for the 5K. Training going well.

Jog/ hike to Dog Lake via Mill D. Had hoped to be able to do the deso loop- wishful thinking. Hit deep snow at 1.2 mi, saw blunder fork sign barely sticking out of the snow and decided to just trudge up to see the lake before it gets crowded with hippys and dog poo.

Legs felt terrible the first mile. Was 40 degrees out too.

Part 2 of the AM run and quest to run on dirt- Lake Blanche.
63:08 2.83mi to the lake. Hit snow at 8100'/ 1.7mi into the jog. Just plugged into the iPod and got my powerhike on to the lake. Gorgeous up there.

Descent was fun on the shallow slush. Got to the p-lot, grabbed the poles and head up 1.2mi/ 900' up Broad's Fork trail til I hit snow, and then back down.

Another good day on the trails. Definitely slow, but being a slave to the HRM (145bpm or lower). I feel myself mellowing out a little, detoxing from school. Probably won't run again today.

Pretty leisurely effort as I wanted to keep HR under 145. Beautiful morning. It was some time on my feet and a chance to get some vert. I just dug being out there. Psyched to disappear again on another trail tmw.

Walked out the door w/ no expectations. i knew it'd be either a 5 minute or 2 hour ride. 13 minutes. Feet felt sore. It was hot. Just wasn't feeling it. Decided to just come home and stretch and rest up for the rest of the week. I don't want to fall in the trap of not resting, and then simply feeling like crap everyday. I mostly don't want to dilute my motivation.

Going to take a lazy day. Walk around the block a few times. Eat some fruits and veg, rather than gels and powerbars.

Legs felt a little lazy on the climbs but came around on 6mi descent. Took it easy mostly on first half to try to stay fresh for pacing. B freakin' won the womens' race- sick.

Today was the first day of officially gettin' back at it, although the next race of considerable distance I'm reg'd for is Speedgoat. Feeling psyched.

Mellow jog w/ Big PLane from b.hollow to Mt. Aire saddle. Some snow but not bad. Pretty wet though. Legs felt a little lazy. Kinda cold. Another gel would have helped (only had 1). Nice little recon jog. I'll go back early next week to tag the top for the first time of the season.
