Upper Torc & Muckross

Lacking inspiration at the moment when trying to come up runs to do around the place. But think I should have done some orienteering training this morning rather that running, would've been smarter use of the morning. Hadn't run some of these paths in a while though. Wasn't a long run and wasn't a short run, something in between.

Tripped myself up early on, ran into a branch later on, and then rolled right ankle too, so a sloppy effort on my part. No damage done.

Not a bad morning, sun breaking out in parts.

Passed 2 women jogging and 1 man a small distance in front of them on the descent down the other side of Torc Waterfall. Plenty of cars parked at the bottom of that track and lots of people out and about in the National Park. Did have to brake for a mountain bike up near Torc too, 3 Killarney CC MTB lads, don't know them.

Calves were mostly ok I think. Bit of time for them to warm up and could feel left and right at various parts of the run. Got home though and plan is to run 1 more time before physio on Tuesday.

Killarney CC Saturday Spin

Group of 7/8 out today. Chilly start but warmed up a bit after Farranfore. Was a bit concerned that i'd not be able for this, knew the route would be 60km but that didn't include the commute in and out from Muckross.

Overall legs survived but pace was handy enough. The hill near the end was manageable but again it wasn't attacked by anyone. Could definitely feel the tiredness as I headed home from town, energy was low, but energy also felt low starting off! There were 1 or 2 stops to regroup and a couple minutes break in Farranfore but no coffee break. Happy with that as I prefer to keep moving.

Met a lot of bikes out today including 3 groups of the Chain Gang between Milltown and Killorglin. Also some Tralee Manor West out as well. I also had the stragglers from the Killarney Adventure Race finishing against me as I headed home. They got lucky with the day.

So this was 1st spin of 2015, wonder when the 2nd will be...

Meander in the National Park

Bit of a meander downhill and then along the Muckross side of the main road before heading back up to the Torc car park before a bit more random paths.

Calves not feeling too hot throughout but got a bit better later in the run. Wore old tracksuit pants, decided against the new running pair I bought in the Asics shop yesterday.

Some of the paths were a bit muddy today. Also ended up off road a bit to get across tracks.

There are a few signs up above Torc and heading back and beyond Killegy House, I am assuming they are for the Killarney Adventure Race tomorrow.

Lovely evening for a run and with the weather forecast for tomorrow I'm going to go for a spin on the bike. Plan to go to Seefin tomorrow is off, planner has no courses for me, Sunday night he says!

Back in maynooth for the 3rd time this year and same room as January. It overlooks the IOC arena. That's 3 days I've spent looking at the IOC sprint finish, that 1 second is taunting me!

Out the door earlier than usual but still almost took me an hour to get running, bit too much faffing about with choosing socks to run in. Wasn't convinced regarding my look this evening, shorts with long socks. Wore long socks to keep the calf sleeves up.

Unreal evening, blue skies with the sun shining and stunning views towards the Reeks and over the lakes.

Right calf could be felt starting off and also quads on the descent from the top. But overall pleased with the legs and also afterwards. Feeling ok tonight. The soreness from earlier in the week has got better.

As I turned off Mangerton Road into the forest there was a girl on the track in front of me with a cat a couple of metres in front of me. Cat saw me and took off down the track faster than Usain Bolt. Not sure what the girl and cat were doing but there was only a girl around after that cat bolted (see what i did there!).

Note

Was in a rush this evening to get dinner eaten after training so as to get to Fieries for a Gluten Free Baking demo/class with JustCooking.ie. Something different to do and ended up being well worth doing. Basically just watching the chef cooking the recipies he gave us and then the group eating.

So ate:
Pizza
Scones
Bread (Oat)
Brownie
Lemon Drizzle cup cake (didn't turn out well)
Apple Pie

Can't complain about anything, even the failed cup cakes. Really really good stuff and if served up it would be difficult for someone to tell that they contained no gluten. Will definitely try and make the bread for starters, other recipies need equipment.

S02E02 of Ripper Street.

This session was a late one, would only do a handful of late sessions in a year but something happened that meant I couldn't train straight after work. Might affect tomorrow's plans too so we'll see what happens.
Will be interesting to see if sleep is affected after training late.

Legs will be nice and warm for a good stretching session afterwards. Calves not feeling too bad today but will need improvement for tomorrow.

Better effort this evening plus an extra exercise (PU), something else to work on with some goals!

Going to try a similar week to last but won't be completely achievable due to other commitments.
Also my left calf is feeling very tight this week so reckon a physio appointment is necessary but finding the time for it is proving difficult, next week i'd say.

Monday - Running
Tuesday - Turbo
Wednesday - Running (something on at 7 so will have to get running early)
Thursday - Rest (gotta head to Maynooth for work)
Friday - Running
Saturday - Orienteering (checking Seefin)
Sunday - Running

Decided i'd run and see what happened. Put on my Skins calf sleeve on my left leg but probably could've done with right one too. Right calf felt tight early on while the left was ok. Left achilles was noticeable near the end too but not too bad. Overall I think my legs got through this run but have sent physio a text.

Nice evening after a mixed day, horrific start to the day. Bit of a breeze off the lake but didn't affect my run. Nearly had a bad slip at the start on the grass but stayed upright and tweaked left ankle through the woods by the lake, not a concern though.

A lot more cars in the car park tonight with the longer evening, a couple of months ago there would just have been me.

Think Maynooth is starting at 1030 on Thursday so that means only leaving home at around 6.30!!!
