Cycling (road) 1:30:00 [3]

Out to black mtn and back.. Soo tired on the return journey. Been a good few days training and looking forward to a rest day

Orienteering 49:15 [4] 8.0 km (6:09 / km)

Yet another Olle v Ian showdown.
Did a mass start but got dropped a little on the big climb at the start.
Somehow got in front of Olle again at 4 after some messing around in the circle at 3.
Decided to push it with Olle now so we had some good pace to the next few but I was a little bit off with my compass so dropped behind another 30sec.
Didn't see him again until 13 then pushed it hard up the hill but miscounted the gullies and went one too far losing the stage!
Oh ane I did t mention it was a 1970's map black and white orientated to true north etc etc

Cycling (road) 1:20:00 [3]

out to weston park and back.
on the way back saw some person that had managed to pull up at the cotter & streeton lights in thw wrong lane.
like he had full pulled up at the lights in the oncoming traffic lane on a split road!? i had no idea how he even made it that far

Orienteering 16:44 [3] 4.2 km (3:59 / km)

another page in the olle v ian saga.
we pansied out of course 1 and went for the shorter, faster course 2.
think i may hav gone out too hard because i was feeling it at the end but didnt really make any errors.
olle ended up taking the win by about 20sec..
but i did come away with a respectable second...

just the norm easy recovery rides.
the 'calm before the storm'
calm being recovery
and storm being hills.. lots of hills

Note

just some quick thoughts on the week of easter..

prologue.
had a preeety good run all up. Maybe lost about 30sec combined after getting tired and slacking on the reading ahead so was sloppy in the circle.
Surprised myself with my place in the end.

day 1.
couldnt back up my performance in the prologue for this one.
was really clean through the first couple of controls but got lazy at number 5 entering the control and missed it by about 30-40sec. That started a chain reaction of sloppyness over the rest of the course so i ended up loosing about 3-4mins all up.

day 2.
gah! what a joke.
was going really smoothly through up until about control 7 where I lost about 1-2mins through 7 & 8 just from bad route choice giving me bad entries into the controls.
Kept the pace through the controls up after that and didnt really lose any time after that (maybe abit from getting tired.. so gel taking stratergy needs to be worked on).
pretty dissapointing when i got to the finish really happy with a good run to find out that i just ran straight past #12 without seeing it, turning two longs legs into one leg about 3.5k long.
was sitting on a time of about 63mins as well.. would have been happy to take the win away from that day :(

day 3.
was really hungry for a good win so focussed on having some real good technique for this run.
party got that but i missed #2 by about 1min having sloppy or no entry into the control & also was a little bit slow through 5 and 6.
interesting route choice on 7 cost me about 30sec.
but i was really smooth through the controls after that so i was happy with my general technique for that day!

aus sprint.
felt pretty good on the day after some easy running during the week.
had a moderate run.. main time losses were losing about 15sec on each of the two long legs..
also probably lost a little bit of time towards the end because i may have pushed too hard in the start and hadnt read ahead
but i was pretty smooth through the course so was happy with my run in all.

aus middle.
not the best way to end the weeks racing..
i think i was pushing too hard through the forest over the back so lost about 2min on 3 & 4.
really sloppy through other controls like 9, 10, 12, & 13.

think i just need to relax a bit more in the terrain and let the navigating do the work in future.
