Race Evaluation

NEOC Spring Rock Festival and Intercollegiates: Blue 2

cmorse

1. looked at both trail options, then ran straight - confidence in open woods, skirted R of green, headed uphill to large boulder, then straight for laurel skirting R into control.
2. straight, passing by depression enroute and following laurel edge into control. An advantage since most everyone else probably mistrusted vegetation mapping after yesterday...
3. clean out to road, then roads & trails to top of main ridge then over the top
4.
5. +04:00Pretty much went in a circle around control, back out to trail, back in again, then back to trail and came up from area of marsh to make sure I had the distance right
6. +02:15Having blown 5, not paying attention and left off to L, intending to run below large cliff, but getting ito smaller cliffs and green to N, came into control and expected to drop another line but saw KenSr punching. Boulders ok relative to one another, but whole group should be mapped a bit higher up hill
7.
8.
9. downhill, plus I caught a swampfox slipstream as he casually blew by me here. didn't even look like he was working for it...
10. remnants of swampfox and ross slipstream - plus pushing a little harder seeing how effortlessly they blew past me..
11. just plain slow up the hill
12. +00:30L to spur, but cut back too early and got caught a little high, in green
13.
14. +01:15felt slow up hill early, then lured down one reentrant N before correcting
15. started up hill, then decided to run downhill and follow stream, saving climb for trail and solid attackpoint
16. +01:00through green, across marsh, then uphill through laurel on bearing from rockpile, another slow uphill
17. +01:30stayed too high, going left of green, slow going in rocky ground, tired and not paying enough attention - lots of other people headed more uphill - got pulled that way until I realized I wanted to cut across the whiter woods to the reentrant.
18. through patchy laurel, up trail and down between hilltops
19. stayed low in white woods, then across trail corner
20. +01:00got sucked R, misread stonewalls crossing trails, had to correct quite a ways (2 contours) back uphill to L
21. Ken Jr passed me at control, I ran a pretty straight line, he distanced me quickly but seemed to go more L uphill early, then trail downhill a bit. I pretty much contoured on line to trail, then stayed R of broad spur down and in - actually ran this leg at a good clip
22. to avoid crossing reentrant ran wide L and down spur - quads cramped badly headed down the hill
23. +00:25ran across bridge quickly and right to control #300 on spur. Wrong number, stood looking around for another flag (I was certainly in the right spot) for about 20 seconds before realizing that was my LAST control, took off down park road as hard as I could muster - through field and overran boulder (tree) by about 5m before realizing
24. painful slog uphill, felt good running in field though
25. straight
26. ok, but didn't feel much zip left
27.
28. hard down the hill picking the cleanest line I could find
F. stayed high of beach for better footing. A very nice course by Charlie/JJ - just much longer than I should be running given my state of fitness or lack thereof...
