Trail Town Races. 10 miler.
3rd. (Winner Kevin Koch 66mins)
Everything about this was perfect. Course was on The Palomino Trail NE of Ridgway. Weather was great.
The start saw the winner hare off at a rapid rate. I settled in, in 3rd. Went into 2nd at 3km. At 4km Karen Williams (2nd place eventually) overtook me and put 40m on me up a hill. Then for the next 10km I'd reel her in and she'd put 40m on me up every hill. At 14k the elastic snapped, she beat me by 20secs.
Chatted to her at the finish and we both agreed we'd worked a tad harder than we'd set out to do. Not terrible, (for me personally it was the perfect effort) but not a Zone 3.
Excellent finish to the longest ever (8 months) training block.
NB. Kendal finished this. Undulating course at elevation and only been up here a week. Very pleased for her.
NNB. Comparing last month's Durango 10miler (GAP 4:12)....the times are fairly similar (Durango slightly quicker), but definitely not comparable efforts, it felt more manageable this morning. Durango, I felt I'd overcooked it a little.

Note
Should've been 2 1/2 hours of LSD today, but bailed. Got a 10miler race on Saturday. Not sure how much mini taper I really want to do.

A friend of mine is a filmmaker and wants to do a film on orienteering. Today was the first day. The premise is he finishes NAOC M21E Long in 6months time. (That'll probably be how long he actually takes to finish the Long! He broke his leg playing football and collar bone skiing recently and is out of shape.)
It was quite funny. He ran on the Telluride map from Covid. He didn't really need to navigate (I let him study the course days before) and knew the whole town as he jogged the streets.
At one point he shouted at an old classmate "Hey, I'm doing a new sport....It's going to be all the rage!!!"
Her response......"Errrr, what running? I don't think so.....tried it....it's terrible."
Next up either Valley Floor or San Juan Overlook.

Base with Kendal in Fall Creek. Felt decent even though I'd not eaten anything since breakie. Perfect temps. Smoke out.....rain in.

Threshold on the River Trail. Not an epic effort, but pleasing.....roasting hot. Lots of thoughts going through my head about how the competition are preparing in the next two weeks. Pondered about looking online, but chose the right thing and met the lads at the brewery for the Ghana borefest.
NB. I got my wife to zoom the HOA meeting.....not realising it was going to have more fireworks than a Trump "peace treaty". Terrible experience and we were on mute.
NNB. Smoke has rolled in this evening. For friends that have visited we can't see Mountain Village from our gaff. For those that haven't. It's as bad as NAOC in Northstar. Or worse. Looks like maybe Paradox is the source?:

Base on the River Trail with Kendal. Rough one today. Completely opposite to the feelings of yesterday's workout. Got it done.
NB. Boiling hot out. HR elevated.
