Running (Treadmill) 40:00 [3] 5.4 km (7:24 / km)
ahr:147 max:170

First treadmill run in a long time. I'm hoping the flat surface will be kinder to my Achilles. It hurt for a couple of days after Raid The Hammer but it didn't seem worse after 25 km than it usually does after 10 km. The physio told me I couldn't damage it more by running. My reaction was, "Hold my beer." But I'm not running up any Alps these days so I'll see how it goes. Soon I'll be able to ski, which my foot likes better.

Trekking (Trail) 25:00 [1] 1.7 km (14:42 / km) +35m 13:20 / km

Family hike in the snow with time deducted for dog antics. It was sunny but we could see huge snow squalls passing by on both sides, some of which hit us on and off during the day. It looks more wintry in Palgrave now. It's not a lot of snow but if 'Bent hadn't already had his first ski of the season, this would have been enough to give it a go.

Trekking (Trail) 40:00 [1] 2.7 km (14:49 / km) +60m 13:20 / km

Family trek around Palgrave West in the snow. Not enough to ski but the ground is mostly white and the forest is pretty. Time deducted for dog sniffing. It's really nice to see how well BazingaDog has responded to his painkillers. His spondylosis can't be cured but he seems much happier and more energetic now that he's on drugs. For the first 5 minutes of each walk, he acts like a puppy - and then he slows down to a dignified senior pace.

Trekking (Trail & Bushwhacking) 58:19 [1] 3.74 km (15:34 / km) +125m 13:21 / km

We got 10-12 cm of snow in the past 24 hours! By the time I could get out, it wasn't great for skiing so I went for a random, hilly bushwhacking hike in Palgrave West instead. Normally I wear snowshoes for this kind of route and I missed their great traction as I slip-slid up and down hills. I picked up a ton of burrs but it was very wintry and pretty. 'Bent got out early for his first ski of the season but opted not to ski to work since it was so sticky in the morning already.

In case you encounter a "masks don't work" argument - maybe talking with your Premier - here are a bazillion scientific studies showing that they do. This collection comes from a Canadian family doc.

Note

Spent the afternoon contacting former classmates for our 2023 engineering class anniversary. It's fun to hear from old friends but strange to spend so much time working on an event that I won't be able to attend while we still own a health care clinic. :(
