Quickroute

Met up with Greg and Summer to do some O at Hickory Run. Used a bunch of controls on the Sand Spring Lake map from the last few events I've designed there so was confident things would be fine. Set it up in UsynligO but things were screwy. It said I was 800m from the start when I was exactly where the start was. Sometimes it does that and then corrects so I started off when it chimed. Got to the first control, no chime. I was pretty sure I was in the right spot, but checked a nearby feature to verify and then decided to keep going to see what happened. About 50 or 60 meters later I heard what I thought was the chime but I think now it must have been something else. Crossed over the power line and got to control 2 and no chime. This was a pond that I was absolutely sure was the correct feature so at this point I investigated a little more carefully. UsynligO still thought I was looking for #1. When I checked where it thought I was it had me back on the other side of the power line. So I just turned it off and did the course without it. Having been to all these controls before it was pretty clear when I was at the control so I was never second guessing whether I was really at the feature or not. But it was still weird not to have anything backing me up. I know that cell reception is really bad in the vicinity of where we parked and the trail to the start so I'm guessing that had something to do with it. Never had the problem before, not even when I was setting/vetting these same controls for events like the SVO Stumble or the HR Training weekend last year. Oh well. It was still a good outing. The woods actually seemed even nicer than I remembered - more open than many other sections on this map.
