ANSW XC Championships, "Willandra", Tapitallee (Nowra). 9am-4pm. 17°C.
Another perfect day. This place can be icy when the wind gets up and the sun disappears behind the clouds or sets early behind the hill. Turned out to be relatively warm with minimal wind. Just 546 runners across all races. Disappointing for a NSW championship. Today's races: 2km (2), 3km (2), 4km (3), 6km (2), 8km (1), 10km (2) plus the 1/2/4km fun runs.
Dave as TD didn't try to take over my job today. Daniel did a good first go as CU and managed the info radioed in from his umpires. A couple of 50+ women detoured left across a pedestrian pathway and cut about 200m from the course on their second 3km lap. There was a local club marshal (not an umpire) at this location but she didn't do anything to keep the runners on course. Technically should have been DQd under TR 56.9, but I recommended DNF results instead. No matter how foolproof you think a course is marked, it isn't. Spotted 1 lyrebird while doing a check of the course. Travel stats: 400km, 5h40m.
