2009 was a bit unusual O season for me. I did lot less orienteering than before, about half of the amount I did 2007. Instead I did forest runing without map. In adition I did lot less racing and race like orienteering than usually. Only about 20 races / race like orienteering runs.
What is remarkable is the fact I did only very little mistakes this season. And only very small ones. As far as I remember my biggest mistakes this season in day O was less then one minute. If somebody remembers a race (mar 1st ->) where I did bigger than one minute mistake just correct me. In night O I did two 2 min ones.
I think one reason is it was really easy to focus because I was eager to navigate/orienteer every time I did O. Maybe it's not bad idea to orienteer a lot during winter season but during race season do it lot less. But it likely works only if you are 35+ old fart and too old dog to learn new tricks and you just need to do what you can, nothing less, nothign more.
