Orienteering 42:00 [3] 4.79 km (8:46 / km)

Control picking course, Gillerberget. With headcam.

Note

As those who have seen those videos must have notice, my O technique is a mess at the moment. I don't know or care where I am, I don't keep my thumb right (because I don't know where I am), I run wrong direction (because I don't know where i am I cant know where I should run to), I don't read in advance (difficult to do if thumb is missing) so I end up just somewhere without knowing in advance where i will be, I am too busy to relocate so I go further without knowing much of anything, so I can't place my thumb right, and it goes all over again ... never ending loop, it will soon break my technique and self confidence in pieces.

Now I need to fix it before it gets out of hands. I'll try to do my usual trick, I'll focus on setting my thumb always right for sure. If I manage to do that for sure, it will be easier to read in advance, get directions right, read in advance, know in advance where I will end up and so on. We'll see how it goes, will it magically fix everything in one night.

Note

FinnSpring 2011, H40AL. First 30 minutes.

Huge mistake at #1, lost over minute there. Then got slightly better hang of it, but was pretty much clueless what I was doing or should do. Most of the time I did not know where I am, where I am going to and what I am actually doing. My nav tech pieces are there, but no-one controls them. First real orienteering attempt since Jukola and having a head cam didn't make focusing any easier I guess. I'll deed a training run or two to get it all going again. And lots more to get some fitness back - as yo can see HR hits ceiling but speed doesn't.

Video later. The camera is such a memcard hog. 4 gig file was only 33 minutes, so last 15 minutes is missing. But my huge mistake at #1 is there :)

Forest run 32:45 intensity: (20:00 @2) + (12:45 @3) 4.46 km (7:21 / km)

Forest run. It is so much fun!

Yesterday I tried to jumping with one leg. Ten hops with left leg took me about three meters. About same as three hops with right leg. I'd say there is something I need to work on before trying to run O races. The strength isn't quite what it should be and I'll get injured pretty easily for sure if I am not careful.

2 x 5min @ ~4:20 min/km (= my current flat out). It felt terrible.

Note

I updated Monday's head cam video withnev version, now with barometric altimeter graph and hr graph. Altimeter graph is elevation/distance, so speed doesn't affect hill's profile. Pretty cool to me.

Skiing (skate) 1:01:00 [1]

50 min skate skiing, +6C, soft and slow. And 10 min jogging on top of it. Also forgot to turn gps off.

Note

Weird stomach problems yesterday and the day before. I had two rest days, I thought my knee would like to rest too. Knee had been pretty good, Monday O run didn't do no harm. I guess skate skiing had been good rehab for it, I think should do that more. Roller skis?

Running 31:55 [1] 5.13 km (6:13 / km)

Skiing (skate) 1:25:00 [2]

At Paloheinä. Wet conditions, but decent glide. Not super fast icy tracks as yesterday. Usual t6c altimeter & hrm and globalsat gps merged data.

Here is original data from altimeter. As you can see weather changed and it tilted altitude data and values are also way to high, so here the gps based correction is handy, same data at AP looks and is far accurate.

Friday Apr 1, 2011 #

Skiing 1 [0]

same with AP elevation correction. Barometer data looks far better/accurate than this.

Skiing 1 [0]

Same, with gps elevation data. Not as good as barometer based data, but better than elevation corrected data. But gps was pretty accurate here, it's not always like this - and especially not all gps units.
7 PM

Skiing (skate) 1:08:20 intensity: (1:29 @0) + (22:39 @1) + (42:18 @2) + (1:54 @3) 18.72 km (3:39 / km)
ahr:129 max:159

At paloheinä again. No gps hickups. Elevation data is barometer based GPS calibrated from Suunto t6c.
