Orienteering (Night) 48:00 [4]
10mila, 3rd leg. Orhi came alone from 2nd leg, so first 1,5 km alone at own comfortable speed. Then with a pack for some time, but could keep that pace for long, so alone again for some controls until I hit the same(?) pack again. Some 30sec mistakes here and here but nothing serious. I was just all too slow. Out 56. place, back 65. Nine places down.
Overall it wen well for out team and out tactics worked perfectly. Our two best men ran first two legs, they ran well and then rest of us were just trying to hang in trains going a bit too fast. But after two legs teams had spread so well as usual, so it isn't big deal if you were left behind (or if you make 10 min error), there is always next train and it will go decent speed too. It isn't like that at all in first and maybe second leg. If you make big mistake or make bad run in the first leg, your team will end up running alone in the dark for the rest of the relay. And if you maange catch other teams, they are not doing any better than you and you will not get any help from them.
Team CSU took huge risk by not putting Boris to leg 1. And they paid for that. I can imagine Boris could have came top 100 and the rest of the night runners could have run in trains going good speed instead of wandering all alone in the darkness. Aftert 3 legs they could have easily been 40-45 mins better than now. Then there would not have been Boris at longa natten any more, but I am sure someone else would have been doing just fine - if first legs went well there would have been nice trains available. And no forking. They ran day legs pretty well, so I guess they might have been able to beat us. Maybe even get to top 100. It wuold be nice to know why they choose not to make the obvious choice and use Boris at 1st leg. The butt?
