Orienteering race 1:17:26 [5] 12.6 km (6:09 / km)
Long Distance state champs at Nganga. It started to pour down just before I went out, which was quite nice, no issues with overheating. Really happy with my run, took two dodgy routes on the long legs, losing maybe 2 minutes, but other than that, only a few small misses.
Started off well, hit the first one cleanly then took the high route to 2, adding height and thick vegetation. 3 was a little high but fine, but then made the mistake of going wide to the track to 4. Was clean through the next few, then drifted right to the clearing after 8, losing 10 seconds. Saw Craig leaving 9 so I knew I was doing ok, ran through him when he overshot 10, then clean through 11. Small error at 12, overshooting by 20m or so. Took a good route to the left to 13, but didn't drop down enough so ended up 20m high on the spur. Saw fletch and Komy here, but tried to ignore them and run my own race. Clean through 14 and 15, and ran the most part of 16 well, although checking up on fletch 50m behind me was distracting, and I pulled up short losing maybe 20 seconds. Hit 17 well and didn't see fletch again. 18 went well, but exiting it I dropped down to much and figured I could cut my loss by running the clearing out to the track, but would have been better not to, losing maybe 30 seconds. Hit the rest of the stuff in the rock well. Seeing the long leg through the flat was exciting, but made sure to keep in contact so I could take a good line off the last track, and hit 23 cleanly.
24 and 25 were good, but pulled up early again to 26 and lost another 10 seconds. Finished the rest of the course just before the rain started pouring again,
The course was good, used all my favourite parts of the map, and the weather was perfect as well. Happy with my nav today, no big errors besides route choice, and felt good in the legs. Good final race going in to nationals.
