Great season opening paddle with Paul S in A2. Had to dodge the crew boats racing at Concordia. Then wicked currents (by my modest standards) whittled us down to ~25-30:00/mile near our turn around. Easy cruise back pausing to let crew boats turn around.

Maybe one day we'll get a schedule where dear wife doesn't want to extend these runs on the days before orienteering races. At least at my miniscule volume.

Igor was of course right - Hudson Mills is a lot of fun. And a very fast park. I need more speed!

Mostly well. Didn't see 5, but stopped and went looking for it, had overshot it by a handful of meters.

Tried to keep feet dry to 11, so I missed it by 3-5 m, realized my overshoot, and doubled back closer to the river.

A few routes chosen to be a little more trail-y or roundabout to be stealthy and/or avoid disc golfers, otherwise more straightline would have been the order of the day.

Night o would be great here!

so I had forgotten about the Peach Mountain ski o maps...and they are gone. :( Whoops.

I think I could run a sub 20 5k as long as it was all downhill. :-)

Note

I sometimes get email on a distribution list at work from a guy named Peter Klye, which totally tricks me into thinking I'm about to have a celebrity encounter since it shows up in Outlook as:

Klye, Peter

which looks familiar at a glance. Then I wonder how Kyle stumbled onto my work email address, and then I see it's just an update on a test car. :(

Walking 22:00 [1] 1.5 mi (14:40 / mi)

I thought it would be nice to grab a little lunch and print Locker Lake. Office Max charged a *design fee* to open the pdf up and print it (their self service printers are about 4 dpi). This was not mentioned prior but I was too flabbergasted to argue. Staples for the win - they've never charged anything. I should really buy a printer one of these days....

No flag run of Locker Lake Red.

Woods are fantastic! This terrain suits me - enough going on to keep track of where you are, but not so confusing you can't figure out where you are.

1. 3:59 (4) Maybe stay on trail a little longer than ride the hilltops? Although I was pretty straight.
2. 9:28 (8) Bad exit, didn't have a good plan, then wasn't sure which of the two was the right one, and couldn't find the knoll. Would have been faster with flags. :)
3. 2:07 (3) Fun downhill leg, woo woo
4. 3:38 (4) Straight but too much hesitating
5. 9:25 (3) Turned in one pond earlier than planned, but an okay route and I figured out that minor oops.
6. 2:31 (5) Hesitation, fun tricky bit with the random hills, had to verify a bit, would have been faster with the flag
7. 7:01 (5) Probably lost the most time being cautious across the flat area before the circle. Not 100% of the feature I was looking for.
8. 3:41 (5) Didn't see a lot of rock for the black on the map, so I looked around a bit to verify.
9. 3:35 (10) Ouch, sloppy out to the trail, then wrong reentrant, then a bit of double checking. Should have ran through the depression I think rather than up.
10. 2:02 (4) Just needed a little more hill power
11. 4:29 (2) Split is good, not entirely sure why other than the small hill just to the west of the bottom of the 8 gave a good attack across the reentrant.
12. 7:19 (3) Need slightly better speed across open flats while trying to run straight. I love how Igor hits you with big features and then takes you though lighter stuff, keeps me off balance.
13. 5:20 (3) Really fun along the ridge sw of the marsh!
14. 6:13 (6) Tricked by a very small saddle west of the correct one, plus apparently too slow compared to the speed demons
15. 2:32 (3) I have never moved so straight in my life! Almost by coincidence as I wasn't too worried
F. 0:39 Number #1 baby!

1:13:59 (4) Right about where I would hope to be in that field. Really fun - I felt like I knew what I was doing and mostly moved well. Just need a bit more fitness and a few route tweaks and occasionally a little more confidence.

Up early but slow to get going. Some fatigue accumulated from this week. I biked up to Canadian Lakes, but wasn't feeling frisky so I respected the no trespassing signs and stuck to the main roads.

If I were going to cook up meth or haunt something, I would chose this place slightly east of the in laws:
