Walking 1:59:46 intensity: (17 @0) + (1:59:29 @1) 7.48 mi (16:01 / mi) +101m 15:22 / mi
ahr:106 max:130 shoes: Brooks Cascadia 8s

Met Super Double M at Luton. Arms raging with poison ivy, she preferred a less bouncy hike over a run. In hindsight, I should have loaded up the kitty litter I had in the car. Good fun.

Luton may be the best unmapped o venue I've seen in Michigan. Fantastic open woods, a shallow sandy bottom creek, an overabundance of trails a la Highland....you could have a lot of fun out there!
11 AM

Biking 36:02 intensity: (55 @0) + (23:21 @1) + (9:05 @2) + (2:41 @3) 5.43 mi (9.0 mph) +73m
ahr:128 max:164 shoes: The General

Short ride. I had to double back for my helmet at one point. I can't figure out how to adjust my crappy mechanical discs, so we stayed on the easier trails. They are really fun trails!

Canoeing 30:11 intensity: (5:04 @0) + (24:36 @1) + (31 @2) 1.53 mi (19:44 / mi)
ahr:103 max:145 shoes: Inov8 Roclite 319

Fired up one of the in law's new 10'4" (π meters) kayaks and took it around the little pond.
2 PM

Canoeing 3:43 intensity: (35 @0) + (3:08 @1) 0.14 mi (26:35 / mi)
ahr:99 max:110

And one for all of my fans. This is probably better than by hand.

Weights 31:29 intensity: (12:48 @0) + (18:41 @1) 0.6 mi (52:27 / mi) +1m 52:11 / mi
ahr:87 max:113 shoes: Inov8 Roclite 319

Another pine had fallen back in the garden. F-i-l got most of it with the tractor while I was cleaning up the debris later yesterday, but we tried to get some of the smaller branches today. I was really dragging, just no power or enthusiasm. I adjusted off most of the accidental tractor ride where I forgot to pause the watch.
6 PM

Walking 1:00:41 intensity: (7:39 @0) + (53:02 @1) 3.5 mi (17:20 / mi) +15m 17:07 / mi

Dear wife wanted to go for a walk. I dragged the pace. In my defense, I was wearing jeans...and was exhausted.

Weights 45:58 intensity: (54 @0) + (45:04 @1) 0.79 mi (58:12 / mi)
ahr:110 max:135 shoes: Inov8 Roclite 319

The in laws had the 71 foot (we measured! 22 meters in Canadian) pine fall in a wind storm shortly after we left last week. It missed the house, but made for a large cleanup project. We divided the task into brains (f-i-l on tractor and chain saw) and brawn (me on logs and branches).

We loaded three wagonloads of brush. Including various miscellaneous tasks, it took most of an hour per.

Weights 40:15 intensity: (8:27 @0) + (31:48 @1) 1.05 mi (38:12 / mi)

Brush wagonload #2!
10 AM

Weights 1:40:11 intensity: (38:30 @0) + (1:01:41 @1) 2.4 mi (41:49 / mi)
ahr:89 max:127 shoes: Inov8 Roclite 319

Yet another load. Plus more miscellaneous wood moving.
12 PM

Weights 40:39 intensity: (6:36 @0) + (32:31 @1) + (1:32 @2) 0.78 mi (52:08 / mi)
ahr:111 max:148 shoes: Inov8 Roclite 319

I think this took most of the too-small-for-boards wood and made a firewood stack just down the hill. Dear daughter can make a lifetimes of smores!
3 PM

Walking 2:18:29 intensity: (8:26 @0) + (2:10:03 @1) 3.56 mi (38:56 / mi)
ahr:102 max:124 shoes: Inov8 Roclite 319

My personal goal was to end the day looking like there was not a monstrous tree laying in the yard that morning. So I raked up all of the debris I could and shuttled wheelbarrow loads over to the new brush pile. I was later told that I could have made a closer brush pile. After my eight trips! Good training anyways, so no worries.

Have you ever been jogging past twilight without a headlamp on an empty country road and heard voices in a cemetery? And had that not be as scary as the loose dog? At least you had the sense to pick up a stick before encountering the latter.

Weights 23:00 [1]
shoes: Barefoot

5th day in a row up by 5:15, woo woo.

I meant to hit the rower, but puttered about with some chores so I did a few weight type exercises instead.

The new bike shop opened today, so I stopped by, but I couldn't be customer #1 since the computer isn't running yet.

I have always wanted to try Ian's do all the courses feat, except I wouldn't expect to win Red and any of Ali's bonus courses. Maybe some upcoming meet where I can start right at noon and if R&G aren't too long.

Training some of Cooper's GYB first timers. Interesting. We tried Yellow, except using all possible shortcuts, which got interesting when all seven of us walked past one mapped trail without noticing it (not 100% sure it is noticeable in this leafy condition). Whoops! Embarrassing! But great relocation practice. At least when we did stop I was able to figure it out alright.

I don't think lessons at noon work so well. Either we need to do them at 11, which is tough with other commitments, or maybe at 3. It makes the instructor's race start a little stressful as if the lesson runs until say, 2 pm thanks to a late start, then you are looking at maybe 90 minutes before you should call it a day to stay in the good will of the MD - that's not a lot of time for mistakes, especially as few reds are only 6 km flat. If we do 3 pm instead, then we can just take down yellow or whatever, and run our course earlier with a quiet mind.

Started watch late, probably missed the first 30 minutes or whatevs.

Fantastic debut course from Elena and Michael. All white woods all the time. Beautiful. Not a single leg was cursed for vegetation - no small feat in Michigan!

I noticed I am out of shape, and still have errors.

1. Stuffed it. Drifted east, and got off by one hill. Lost 7 minutes or so - I walked it for pickup in under 5 and ran it in 12. Sad face. Maybe I should commit to walking #1.

Got my mojo back after that, thankfully not too rattled. Some small little things, like being off by a few meters at the end of the leg, and having to hop over a depression.

Exit from #3 sucked; I need to work on that.

Straight was likely faster to #8, but my well-insulated self was feeling the heat so I took the trail and came up.

Almost bobbled #9, but spidey sense kicked in.

Probably not best route to #10, but safe and easy. I was not ready for more hill, so I tried to stay south to get to #11. But it was undulating anyway and a little thicker, so over the hills and trail maze was better I bet.

I still need compass practice as I was headed to the wrong hill for 11 but luckily saw it. Very cautious to #12...too cautious and slow. Many bonus swamps given the weather.

Did not have a huge kick for F, but I had fun flying in. Maybe it will stick.

3 PM

Orienteering 38:38 intensity: (14:34 @1) + (13:56 @2) + (9:40 @3) + (28 @4) *** 2.19 mi (17:39 / mi) +82m 15:49 / mi

Fracking drilled #1....walking. Comical.

Then was super clean through the rest, maybe a little wobbly to my bonus orange control because I was checking out cars and etc.

I need to figure out my speed balance! Or get super fit and good. Or both.
