Something anyway. Puttered in garage earlier, then family stuff quickly consumed the balance of the day. I'm, uh, tapering, yeah, tapering.

Mistakes are so glaring with hindsight!

If Yankee goes well, maybe this will be a FB post?

Can't decide how lazy to be today....

Biking 1:03:31 intensity: (1:02:02 @1) + (1:29 @2) 15.04 mi (14.2 mph) +33m

tl;dr I found a person in a ditch.

I kicked around going...not going out. Then I kicked around what route...maybe I could sneak up to ILRA and do a few hill climbs...nah, it would be after 10 when I got there, and I should probably not be the permit holder who gets busted.

I decided to go nice and easy - my knee doesn't hurt per se, but after Saturday's big ride, I know it exists, which isn't the best. But maybe a little longer than the standard 15 mile loop.

So I went up to 9 Mile, then back to 8, over to Dixboro, but down to 5, rather than 6, to pad it out two more miles.

Coming up Spencer from 5 to 6, I was cruising along and saw a small figure in the ditch, sort of fetal position.

Odd.

I continued up towards 6, but then decided to check things out. Maybe he was injured and not just randomly camping.

I went back, and fortunately, he was not dead and responded, groggily, to some questions. He had walked up from Ann Arbor, goes to EMU, was 22, and named Jeremy. As I was wondering how and if I could get him home (bike to my house for my truck? Call the township police?) some people drove by. Then stopped, then reversed. The guy asked me what was up, and I mentioned I saw this guy sleeping here. The young lady (guy's gf) had a good manner and was able to get some more info out of him. They got his address and then loaded him up to drive him home.

Looking at his address, he took several random turns to end up where he did. And I took several random turns to end up where he did. I don't know if Will and Paige also took random turns to end up where we did. I don't think they would have seen him; my bike and position on the road were suited to it and theirs (opposite direction) was not.

Hopefully it all ends well. My hunch is he was maybe on some drugs, or something. He never quite got to coherency like you'd expect if he had just normally taken a nap in a ditch.

I eventually stopped and made a new lap. Wasn't sure how long it would take to load up the young man.

Starts are down a bit...again. I believe promotion should be a more key topic at the annual meeting.

Send in the balance owed to ILRA for night o. Did not figure out how/when to ask about if they care if I rent some bathroom facilities, or if I just let people deal with it. There will be two on the course....

I should start scouting that soon, and grab more trail gps tracks, especially for the periphery.

Also finally got the proceeds sent in from Spring Mill. After Adventure Day printing, and by the time SMOC pays the insurance fee to OUSA, it will be about break even. Good thing we are a non profit!

Which reminds me that I am wondering about picking a meet or two and maybe trying a cheapo facebook ad. I wish I had the courage to do so when they offered some credit. But one wonders about 1-3 starts' worth of ad; the claimed reach, even at 0.1% success for adding attendees, would break even. Bash reported some success for Wilderness Traverse with fb ads.

I needed to get out of the house. I felt like could go indefinitely at this pace; perhaps I will run my first Chill.

New marathon record set in Berlin this weekend.

26.2 miles at 4:42/mile. I might be able to keep for 100 m.

I have a very slight cold now. Not sure if it's what daughter had, or wife had, or my very own ailment.

Blargh! Not my finest run.

1. - conservative, okay, checking out the woods, no problem, probably not fast but fine
2. - Had fun stringing high bits together since I missed that #2 had teeny tiny slope ticks. Trail route was probably faster.
3 - What? I don't know there this one was, but I ran some reentrant in the right spot top to bottom and didn't see it, at least I thought so. QR suggests it was lower, but circle was up a little so I didn't think it was in the swamp....
4 - just dumb, got fooled by that unmapped trail, missed high, went to relocate and thankfully found top rock pile. Oh crap, now I see I missed another tick. Dammit.
5 - Easy peasy, take trail to high point, cut down reentrant, turn south, SPIKE! Nope, no station there. I see on the master map that it was circled north of where my map had it. Alex also reported similar issues.
6. - I think a faster runner would have been well served to take the road and the trail to it. I went south, stringing some things together. Looks like I missed the swamp a bit (how can I do that?) and got into the ultra green, which was really not that bad, certainly no worse than along the marsh. Caught up to everybody here, Hilary, Keating, Oleg
7. - Yeah, an error free leg running up the spur. Probably aided by visiting this spot ten times now at various meets.
8. - A fun leg, through the saddle into the depression. Didn't see it straight away, then finally spotted it.
9 - ARGH, veered just short of trail, massive parallel detour, wasn't sure if marsh was crossable, went around, then for control, was too low on spur, and missed. ARGH ARGH
10. - Fine
11. - Fine, through park HQ and the green around the swamp wasn't too bad
F - no oomph (for most of the course), ran into some sort of cable at speed, no harm, just dumb time loss

Hopefully I clean up all this crap at Yankee so I can do well in Hamilton.
