50 and rain inspired me to dress like 40, which was waaay too warm.

Original targets were four hours and most of Proud Lake singletrack. However, after being slow to get out of the house, and then tiring of horse crap covered unmarked trails, I bailed out to Wixom.

I decided I should set up mental cut off times, and then cheer myself for hitting them.

First time clipless on the Dragon. One spill, when I was accidentally bandit riding a hiking trail (signage issue), hit a soft spot at two mph, and couldn't get the left foot out.

Awesome ride on the whole - just great to be out.

New bike stat: clipless falls this ride - lifetime on Dragon

Light rain, 58°F - I though it would be a great time to try shorty shorts and a t shirt. I pictured it being a bit cold but it was fine.

1 mile paved at 3.8 mph
2 miles 70% dirt, 30% paved at 5.4 mph
1 mile paved at 3.4 mph

Leg doesn't hurt like the other day. I think it was jogging just a few yards carrying my daughter. I must not ever do that.

Legs are, however, mega sore from the strength session.

I should really have looked at the escape from Ann Arbor better - I missed my turn. Thankfully, I had just enough time to overshoot and backtrack.

I mostly took this trip to try the singletrack shortcut from Whitmore Lake Road @ Bandemer over to Pontiac Trail.

I still need to pare down the time from alarm to out the door.

Note
slept:8.0

If seven hours isn't enough sleep, I have some serious thinking to do.

Walking (Paved) 51:53 intensity: (29:39 @0) + (15:13 @1) + (6:06 @2) + (55 @3) 4.0 mi (12:59 / mi) +4m 12:57 / mi

Wife was tired of looping around in the gravel sub, so I braved the pavement of East Shore. I found a lot of grass and gravel on the shoulders, so I did that as much as I could.

1 mile @ 4.1 mph
2 miles @ 5.4 mph
1 mile @ 4.0 mph

The nice side effect of the cold was a naturally increased walking speed to keep warm.

Not sure why I had a few higher hrm moments. We weren't going much faster and I felt great.

Note

I realized this morning that the absolute best way to ensure that 300 seconds do not separate me from finishing is to simply shoot to be a top five team in 2013. Spend 52 weeks building a giant aerobic base and improving USGS nav skills...then kill it.
5 AM

Biking (Paved / Dirt) 46:55 intensity: (30:44 @0) + (13:30 @1) + (2:41 @2) 9.46 mi (12.1 mph) +4m

Coworker has been struggling to get his bike out, so I lent him Jeff's trainer. I took my bike in for its "30 day tune up" only seven months late, so I rode my old red 19" 26er. I felt like a circus bear riding a kids bike pulling a trailer of gravel. Good clipless practice though. Semi singlespeeded it - I shifted just once.

Wife wanted to do three, and I thought, what better than Bishop Lake Blue?

She noted that it was "rugged" before we got across the first road.

I swear we jogged the middle three miles, even if the speed is low. We did walk up and down some hills, mostly to ensure no trips/falls.

I had a fantastic time. I'm not 100% sure this was dear wife's favorite running route.
