Orienteering 2:50:00 [1] 7.25 mi (23:27 / mi)

Parts of the permanent course at Pontiac.

Mostly, we wanted to revisit two errors made at the 2011 SmartBlast race that used the same points.

RA screwed us up again. We ended up off map. I need to go back as I still don't have the gravel pit residue matched to the contours in my mind. I even messed up exiting the area. We got onto the correct trail, but I didn't realize we were on it!

We also revisited R8. I see what I did now; I intended to take the east-west trail near it right to it, but the head for that is overgrown, so we ended up on another trail. You can also not see the exit of the east-west trail onto the trail along the marsh/pond, which helped contribute to my parallel error.

Lessons learned:

* Need improved distance estimation. We overshoot a lot.
* Less reliance on absolute accuracy of trails - ensure it matches features
* Better attackpoint selection. Twice we took slightly easier routes with less reliable approaches, and we burned by it. So until I get better, I should go with reliability.

Bonus: Despite stepping into a puddle ten minutes in, I still have my toes. they got cold when stationary, but heated up alright on the jog.

Running 8:30 [2] 1.0 mi (8:30 / mi)

I should:

* stop eating like I just did a six hour race when I'm going to do ten minutes of exercise

* start getting my lazy bum up earlier if I want to do a 24 hr race in September

On the upside, this does keep me with a better ramp in than my usual gung ho, get hurt style of running.

I should really do a cycling session on odd days, rowing on evens, and after one of those, tack on some running. That would seem to maximize everything without risk of overdoing it on running.

Speaking of running, I will drop the mountain run and instead do a Rogaine in Ohio with Tony M. instead. Waldo will probably be down there as well.

Erg rowing 50:00 [3]

I surprised even my self. Now hopefully I will get up tomorrow and hit the bike.

Running 15:00 [3] 1.5 mi (10:00 / mi)

4 mph for .25
8 mph for .50

then repeated.

I was upset with myself for sleeping in, but decided to just squeeze in a little something anyway.
