Note
(rest day)

The JK.

9th overall, which represents progress - I was 25th five years ago!

A combination of better fitness, both speed and stamina, and rivals succumbing to injury or otherwise dropping out of the sport.

Pleased, but not overjoyed.

This was the worst JK I have ever attended in terms of the quality of orienteering. Last year was okay, nice weather. And next year, it's back to Cold Ash. Hmph.

Orienteering race 40:52 [5] 5.48 km (7:27 / km) +120m 6:43 / km
shoes: Inov8 Arctic Talon 275

JK Relay, Senior Men Leg 3
Chris didn't stay with the pack on the first leg and Andrew wasn't going to make up the gap so ended up running on my own, turns out I was gaining on Ricky Baxter but never saw him so just plodded on thru the mud, off-line to #5 and missed #11 attacking 10-20m too late

shoes: Inov8 Arctic Talon 275

JK Long, Beaudesert
oh dear, the forestry work and 'sensitive area' restrictions really butchered this course: a handful of technical legs but mostly TD3 and (muddy) path running, tough physically, lull around #12 (30mins), then again around #20 (58mins), no mistakes really, except to enjoy the terrain instead of the path on #11

15th, 9.5mins behind James, 7 behind Charlie, too many others in between though

JK Long

running warm up/down 8:00 [2] 1.0 km (8:00 / km) +40m 6:40 / km
shoes: Inov8 Arctic Talon 275

jog to start, including a pause at the results board

had an early lunch (half a sandwich, apple) and necked two jelly babies at -7 = no 'empty' feeling early in the course

JK Middle, Brereton Spurs
felt empty leaving the start lane, must do something about that, it happens at big races usually starting late, so tomorrow jelly babes shortly before call up, navigation a bit scrappy, lost one minute at #17 failing yet again to see my bearing thru, diverted to anothr control a hide as a result missed left and charged towards another control ... on a hide, the difference between a really good result and merely a good one

9th, 4mins behind James and Charlie

JK Sprint, MOD Stafford
very easy and a bit on the short side, good pace, could've upped it earlier, only one error leaving #5 in the direction of #7 (<10s), nice to be in the thick of it (again)

7th, 45secs behind JL, 25 off third place

Chatsworth Estate
mapping on the run, from Hell Bank into the south end of the lower wood, good and bad news, rhoddies diminished on southern end of slope but old map rather - ahem - 'generalised' in that area, e.g. prominent ruined wall (in runnable wood) omitted
