Orienteering race 1:07:49 [4] 7.3 km (9:17 / km) +330m 7:35 / km
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 340

SYO Regional, Rivelin
this would have been tough even without the snow, and dangerous, I confess I didn't attack the course as I might have, hard to get the pace up, time loss mostly due to route choice, and undergrowth, Mark Chapman caught me at 6, Paul Addison was already ahead, but he passed me twice more :), but couldn't keep up with him in the last few km

3 - judged the banks of the stream too steep and went around (2mins!!!)
4 - didn't push hard enough through the holly (40secs)
8 - wrong route, but should've plunged down to the track sooner, would've avoided getting into windblow and marsh, missed the flag by 10m (2mins)

9th (out of 21), 12mins behind a pair of Jacks (Wright and Millar), but ahead of Mark Chapman (!) who had a bad miss at the tricky 13th

Orienteering race 21:10 [5] 3.3 km (6:25 / km) +65m 5:50 / km
shoes: inov8 Mudclaw 272

DVO Local Event, Bradley Woods
very runnable area so went straight where I could, without avoiding climb, to get the most out of it, focused on 'control flow', pretty good little work out

should've done it slower and gone around twice really

Note
(rest day)

not been feeling great this week, as if I were on the edge of a cold, and yesterday's session was a bit laboured, so let today pass

running (terrain) 1:06:13 [3] 10.83 km (6:07 / km) +155m 5:42 / km
shoes: inov8 Mudclaw 272

Harewood Moor, Longside Moor, East Moor, Beeley Moor
rough trail/terrain run, fast start, but was blowing hard going across the hillside through the wood and also on the last stretch over Beeley when the sheep trods disappeared, the heather got deep and the ground rocky ... had to walk for a while, don't know if there's a better way through

Mapping 3:00:00 [0] 5.0 km (36:00 / km)

the last of the sunny days so up to the moor to try and get to grips with where the wood ends and semi-open begins, also took dad along for a second opinion on the knolls I found yesterday (verdict: promising)

5 PM

running 1:05:55 [4] 12.46 km (5:17 / km) +240m 4:50 / km
shoes: Saucony Peregrine

Farley Hill, Upper Lumsdale, Tansley Moor, Matlock Bank
the mapping certainly warmed me up because it didn't take long to get going, did the outward 'half' as fast as I've done it and coming back I was two minutes quicker (though that's without doing the last 150m down our road) ... can I call this intensity four?

the idea in these few weeks before the JK is to lower the distance and up the speed

Mapping 3:00:00 [0] 5.0 km (36:00 / km)

beautiful afternoon in a better part of the forest, but still with the rhodedendrons ... lots of rhodedendrons
