EMOA League, Longshaw
boy it was warm today and the advantages of starting late were mitigated by those several extra degrees of celsius, got through a bottle of water very quickly working on the start, but it was a strong field for an league event, many of whom started late as well (so not much of an excuse)

kept it going quite well, but don't think I'm properly over the cold yet; a couple of misses:
7 - flag was hung in the wrong place, found the crag and the red tape, the flag was hiding around a kink in the middle of the crag, I'd almost given it up for lost - if you ran at it direct from the path it was visible apparently
18 - attacked off the path bend, saw a little re-entrant to my right carried on and thought the next one too steep so went back, no flag, so ran around the spur, and there it was all along
20 - went straight, but fell over in the tussocks, taking the path was quicker (Bill Edwards demonstrated this for me)
24 - switched off and followed the elephant tracks, which led south of the control, stopped, turned back and found deep gully-like re-entrant, came out of that and went in the direction of the control and found it, a good penultimate leg

19th (out of 37), but less than 15mins behind Aidan Smith

SYO Local Event, Redmires
the promise of "suberb runnability" helped me persuade dad to drive up to Redmires, thankfully, it was worth it: a lovely evening and a great little area - hardly ran on a path for the entire 5km

I had planned to run hard on this one, but it took a long time to get going - a bad night's sleep letting the cold get the better of me?

couple of misses as well:
1) saw the flag but decided it was too close to the light green - but what I understood as the edge of the light green was a veg boundary. I don't think I 'see' these distinction properly
4) navigated most of the way to 5 - oops! - and then my reading of the map wasn't close enough, missing the extension of the clearing
8) stayed too high, and didn't deviate when I saw the big clearing - sloppy

then I took my own route to 11 without noticing the line between the circles went in another direction ...

Gotta be more focussed on Sunday

Farley Hill, Upper Lumsdale, Tansley Moor, Matlock Bank
it's been a while since I plodded up Farley Hill, had second thoughts about it as I left the house, my calves still tight after the urban race in o-shoes, so eased my way into this one, the climb at Upper Lumsdale felt easier than it has done and even decided to head up the hill again out of Tansley, enticed by a better view of the sunset

hmm, must go and stretch properly now
