Orienteering race (night) 52:51 [4] 6.3 km (8:23 / km) +150m 7:30 / km
shoes: inov8 Mudclaw 272

DVO Night Event, Allestree Park
my first night event in ... 28 years

those flags, they're difficult to spot after the sun's gone down, must've been within 5m of two or three of them and missed, difficult to spot those paths too, so it's important that the ones you find are on the path, not so at the first control: a v. distinct path 25m before the one I wanted, and on the way to 4, a new path, lined by wooden rails lead me off-piste and then back, the trees must've been laughing

so a bit of muttering in the circle, finished 38secs behind Andy Sykes and 90 something behind Andrew Powell ... and 14mins behind Richard Robinson

Note

Feeling yesterday's intervals. Stiff ankles, complaining 'shin' muscles. Definitely a rest day.

running intervals 16:50 [5] 4.0 km (4:13 / km) +20m 4:06 / km

Arc Centre Sports Fields
hello, stitch, my old friend ... you cramped my style a little, but not too much: I still managed 4 x 1km intervals at an even pace: 4.11, 4.14, 4.13, 4.12 with 2.30 recovery

should really do five of those little buggers next time out with less recovery time

running warm up/down 10:00 [2] 1.4 km (7:09 / km) +10m 6:54 / km

jog up to the fields and one easy circuit before the intervals

Arc Leisure Centre
tested out the length/incline of an 'interval' up the access road: challenging - not quite flat out and I was struggling ...

running (small paths and tracks) 1:07:02 [3] 12.0 km (5:35 / km) +115m 5:20 / km

Forty-six Acre Wood, Whitesprings, Hall Dale Wood, and Holt
time was when I jumped up and down and celebrated running for an hour, it happens more frequently now, although this time out I had to stop a couple of time to check the map (it's out of date)

started up at the top but it wasn't all downhill as my route through the woods was undulating and then I decided to head up and along the hill avoiding the A6

steady run, almost petered out as I started back up the hill, but kept it going well

Note

Rankings Up-date:

slipped out of the top 50, due to some better orienteers restoring their full quota of scores; the target is now identical: top 400 overall should get me back into top 50 in M40.

Without that 4 minute mistake on Sunday, I'd have been thereabouts
