well, I didn't bonk after 30mins so that's good, and it was warm again, on the other hand, there wasn't much climb, Simon M caught a minute on me by #7 but it took until #15 for the next minute, then I ran from #17 to #21 - the line back to #18 was acute and I was distracted by coming out at the place where we'd parked

good course around school and Hurst Farm Estate, with a maze to finish barging boy scouts out of the way, took it fairly easy and it was short enough to complete before I (might have) hit the wall

oh dear, definitely something wrong, struggled from the half-hour mark, couldn't sustain any efforts longer than a couple of minutes after that, engine failing, it was warm 22° and I was sweating, but my guess is a virus ...

ugh, around the area twice (and only two-thirds of the area available) so this was repetitive and brutal, loads of fence crossings, couldn't make sense of the map in places (out of date)

tidy run, felt okay, was sent off in 5th and came home in 2nd (I think), but other teams had their weakest runner on the middle leg, Dave Vincent was overtaken, possibly without realising, and we finished in 5th overall

good run, not great, physically demanding and I wasn't up to the challenge, consequently my orienteering was also laboured (hesitant and indecisive), but this is what it's about

better version of straight route on #7 would have been to head for the small tarn and take the path there (didn't say any climb going around the fence)

9th, 7mins behind 8th (Ifor), 19mins behind winner James Logue

Garmin estimates 320m climb, reckon it was closer to 400
