11 AM

Orienteering race 46:19 [5] 8.21 km (5:38 / km) +95m 5:20 / km
shoes: Jalas FLX

EM League, Ratby Woodlands, Blue
better than expected, brambles and mud avoidable, reasonable course, spoiled by a distinct tree in hawthorn at the end, ran surprisingly well, not in top form, didn't notice the rib

clean run apart from 20+secs in abovementioned hawthorn, appear to have lost time at another leg, others must have taken a straighter route through undergrowth

1st, 2:41 ahead of Chris McCartney

fell short of EM League Title by approx 4 points (or 12-15secs)

Thursday Dec 29, 2016 #

(sick) shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Eyam Moor
felt okay, but started to struggle after 30mins, low energy, still in the grip of the cold, I guess

Tuesday Dec 27, 2016 #

Note
(sick)

a cold :(

Sunday Dec 25, 2016 #

shoes: Inov8 Race Ultra 290

Riber, Dethick, Holloway, Lea Bridge, Blueberry Knoll
long loop from sister's house (Starkholmes), similar to our route from Duke William, warm out, pleasant but slow

Saturday Dec 24, 2016 #

running 33:08 [3] 6.53 km (5:04 / km) +200m 4:24 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Hitogami 2

Starkholmes, Hall Leys, Matlock Bath, High Tor
two loops from my sister's house, fast downhill and along the A6, then a haul back up to Starkholmes, good

Thursday Dec 22, 2016 #

5 PM

running 32:00 [3] 6.5 km (4:55 / km) +100m 4:34 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Hitogami 2

to my sister's via Matlock Bath with a loop of Morledge at the start, details to follow (when I relocate my Garmin)

running 1:23:44 [3] 14.63 km (5:43 / km) +330m 5:09 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Longshaw, Millstone Edge, Higger, Stanedge, Burbage, Longshaw
sunshine as sun came down, good pace, good light, not so muddy, ribs a dull ache

Tuesday Dec 20, 2016 #

1 PM

running 49:44 [3] 9.52 km (5:13 / km) +140m 4:52 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 190

Stanton Spirals
started nice and brisk and first loop was tempo pace, didn't intend to keep that up, last loop was a bit flat in terms of energy, ribs slightly uncomfortable, worse after I stopped

Sunday Dec 18, 2016 #

10 AM

running 2:30:00 [3] 18.15 km (8:16 / km) +690m 6:57 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Mount Famine, Kinder Reservoir, Kinder Downfall, South Head
great weather for it, good route, apart from the attempt to climb out of Kinder, but felt sick for most of the run (2h), why? probably the painkillers I took before setting out, a codeine first thing (pre-8am) and two ibuprofen, probably not a good mix

the rib was more painful last night

Saturday Dec 17, 2016 #

1 PM

running 23:21 [3] 5.16 km (4:32 / km) +10m 4:29 / km
shoes: Inov8 Race Ultra 290

Cycle Path Loop
set out on the Oker Loop but saw the cycle path had been finished so invented a new easy loop out and back via the Darley Bridge road

Garmin out of battery so used Runkeeper, think it overestimated the first mile

Friday Dec 16, 2016 #

Note

ribs (right torso) still sore after Sunday's fall

Thursday Dec 15, 2016 #

6 PM

Core Conditioning 10:00 [0]

KV's core-conditioning: quite tired after yesterday, so just a few exercises instead of short run

Wednesday Dec 14, 2016 #

11 AM

Orienteering race 58:50 [5] 10.11 km (5:49 / km) +35m 5:43 / km
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 340

Military League, Stapleford Wood, Brown
first event on my new map, too soon to miss the bramble/bracken, but it wasn't awful, a lot of track running, didn't feel in top form, but reasonably steady, EMIT didn't register at #3 so mp

Monday Dec 12, 2016 #

6 PM

running 1:22:55 [3] 12.4 km (6:41 / km) +285m 6:00 / km
shoes: Inov8 Race Ultra 290

Bakewell, Calton Pastures, Lindop, Haddon Fields
damp and sloppy, the RaceUltras can't handle these, smaller quicker group tonight, with one of those absurd racing fininishes which got faster and faster

Sunday Dec 11, 2016 #

10 AM

Orienteering race 1:03:18 [5] 8.09 km (7:49 / km) +185m 7:01 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

EM League, Eyam, Blue
good course, with a coupld of bingo controls, ran hard when I could, orienteering a bit loose in places

#1 may have seen the control but discounted it due to visibility and position, should've relocated on the first depression but pressed on, not thinking [60]
#2 chose RH option and ran hard on paths, but further and slow into control
#4 boulder further down hill than expected [30]
#5 navigated to re-entrant, but control was just above as you entered, had to stop and work it out [60]
#8 bingo pit, bearing took me 20-30m to the right, feature/flag only visible from 10m [3mins]
#14 missed right slightly, feature seemed more like a depression than a re-entrant [30]

Friday Dec 9, 2016 #

7 PM

running 1:07:04 [3] 12.66 km (5:18 / km) +240m 4:50 / km
shoes: Inov8 Race Ultra 290

Tansley Moor Loops
dragged myself out into the night, wasn't sure it was the right thing to do as I puffed up the hill, but the 8min split was respectable, uneventful from there, right thigh tightened coming down across Matlock Bank

Tuesday Dec 6, 2016 #

Note
(sick)

I've had this sniffling, snotty minor cold for almost two weeks now, today it got a bit worse, feeling as foggy as the weather

Monday Dec 5, 2016 #

6 PM

running 1:31:25 [2] 13.35 km (6:51 / km) +310m 6:08 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Brassington, Bank Top, Bradbourne, Ballidon, Pasture Lane
too much pfaff tonight, low visibility plus poor concentration from them that knew the route, got intercepted by a landowner at Bank Top, who politely sent us back the other way, not knowing the distance remaining made the experience more arduous, slow with faster periods

Sunday Dec 4, 2016 #

11 AM

Orienteering race 40:28 [5] 6.09 km (6:39 / km) +90m 6:11 / km
shoes: Jalas FLX

EM League, Byron's Walk, Blue
tidy run but fairly straightforwards orienteering, some route choice, only time losses were not finding the best lines (a matter of seconds) and possibly not the best routes each time, good pace, a long run-in from the penultimate control, couldn't sprint at the end

1st, 7mins ahead of Graham Piggott (who has beaten me afore now, I think)

Byron's Walk

Saturday Dec 3, 2016 #

2 PM

Orienteering race 34:05 [4] 4.55 km (7:29 / km) +200m 6:08 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

DVO Informal, Oker Hill
hadn't yet raced on my mapand they were starting from the other end this time, took at tempo pace, course took us straight up the hill four times

Friday Dec 2, 2016 #

11 AM

running 12:12 [2] 1.01 km (12:05 / km) +40m 10:05 / km
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 340

jog from Alderwasley to Start location in Shining Cliff

Orienteering 1:45:00 [4] 9.3 km (11:17 / km) +430m 9:10 / km
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 340

Shining Cliff
test run of Black course (first version)

running warm up/down 2:00 [1] 0.3 km (6:40 / km) +20m 5:00 / km
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 340

started to jog back to car, couldn't keep it up, knackered

Thursday Dec 1, 2016 #

Note

So notched up 201km last month, not bad, not as good as October (262km), but more orienteering
