Note
(rest day)

Day of travel (back from Copenhagen)

Monday Aug 29, 2011 #

5 PM

running 21:36 [4] 2.54 km (8:30 / km) +20m 8:11 / km

Copenhagen
two laps of Fredericksberg Gardens, going a good pace, not flat out, but pushing all the way, don't think I could have done another lap at that pace

seemed to be going in the reverse direction to the other joggers

Turbo/Cycling warm up/down 21:00 [2] 5.6 km (3:45 / km)

Copenhagen
cycled there and back as 'warm up/down' for the run

Saturday Aug 27, 2011 #

2 PM

Turbo/Cycling 22:00 [1] 5.4 km (4:04 / km)

Copenhagen
cycled to Fredericksberg Gardens, strolled around, cycled back

Friday Aug 26, 2011 #

1 PM

Turbo/Cycling 1:15:00 [3] 22.0 km (3:25 / km)

Copenhagen
day trip to the beach at Amager, via Christiana (where we cycled very slowly through the pedestrians)

Thursday Aug 25, 2011 #

6 PM

running 30:13 [3] 6.23 km (4:51 / km)

Copenhagen
jogged down to the 'lakes' and tried to keep the pace up, didn't feel too fast, but the rhythm was good

running warm up/down 12:54 [2] 1.9 km (6:47 / km)

Copenhagen
mix of walking, jogging, and running on way back from the 'lakes'

Wednesday Aug 24, 2011 #

3 PM

Turbo/Cycling 1:00:00 [1] 17.0 km (3:32 / km)

Copenhagen
cycling out to a marina, back into town, around town, and the home, not very fast 'cos I'm not used to this cycling business

Monday Aug 22, 2011 #

Note
(sick)

Woke up in a sea of phlegm ... I exaggerate, but you get the drift.

Sunday Aug 21, 2011 #

12 PM

Orienteering race 53:32 [4] 5.8 km (9:14 / km) +225m 7:44 / km

SE Middle Distance Champs, Nut Wood
the first half of this was essentially a sprint race, followed my some tricky knoll/rootstock business in the wood, and some nonsense in very old quarry workings with short, steep slopes

lost most of my time dealing/trying not to deal with those slopes, began to fade towards the end, but not a bad run all in all

24th on Black (15mins behind Jonny Crickmore)

Friday Aug 19, 2011 #

6 PM

running 35:52 [3] 6.33 km (5:40 / km) +90m 5:17 / km

Stanton Moor
back for a sensible run on Stanton Moor, two loops, trying not to run on the same path twice, almost managed it, good rhythm again, although turned out to be a disappointing speed, given it was only middle distance

Wednesday Aug 17, 2011 #

7 PM

running 1:00:19 [3] 10.2 km (5:55 / km) +300m 5:09 / km

Farley Hill, Upper Lumsdale, Tansley, Matlock Bank
legs felt heavy but I got out there, took a map along - Ardnaskie - to take my mind off the constant monitoring of my condition, it worked, got a rhythm going, and not even a bit of gut rot could spoil it

the sun was out and I broke the hour mark :)

Monday Aug 15, 2011 #

5 PM

running 34:20 [3] 5.21 km (6:35 / km) +110m 5:58 / km

Stanton Moor
what a mess! the path along the side of the hill was so overgrown I missed it. Should've got the message, but doubled back and found it, after a while I could hardly run, lengths of waist-high bramble flagellating my leg, then my patched-up o-shoes started to rub badly and I think I still have bit of a cold

but boy is it lovely up there with the heather in bloom, gotta get back there for a proper run soon

Friday Aug 12, 2011 #

5 PM

running 51:26 [3] 9.33 km (5:31 / km) +115m 5:12 / km

Farley Hill, Ladygrove, Darley Bridge
didn't feel too bad setting out, but missed the turning and had to make a right-angle straight up hill, adding 140m to the outward section, plus maybe 15m of climb, took over a minute longer than last time

ran out of energy in the final section, on the flat, which felt worse cause that's where I should have been motoring

Note

BOF Rankings
well, the Scottish Six Day results have now been processed and it seems I fell short of my target - top 50 (in M40) - by a mere 13 points; Simon Patton, David Spence, and Steve Birkinshaw, came from nowhere.

Haven't had a good clean run since my return (with 'run' being the operative word). So, the potential for improvement is there.

Tuesday Aug 9, 2011 #

6 PM

running 26:57 [3] 5.11 mi (5:16 / mi) +60m 5:05 / mi

Ocker Loop (short)
had to drag myself out, feeling stiff and depleted, and it was hard to get going, but my split for the first 2km was easily my fastest - go figure!

Sunday Aug 7, 2011 #

Note
(rest day)

So that was my first Scottish Six Days in ... thirty years. Don't remember it being as tough, but I was only thirteen back then and fairly fit. Six days of standard orienteering would have been a challenge. Six days of Scottish orienteering was about four too much. I ran out of petrol on Day 3 (good run technically).

Consistent results: always mid-field, apart from above-mentioned Day 3; rarely in the top 20 in the splits; adding up to 35th position overall.

Some poor route-choices, influenced by fatigue (hoping to avoid climb, longing for a line feature to simplify things for my oxygen-starved brain); and three similar navigation errors: a result of over-estimating distance travelled from attack point, lack of confidence.
