shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Barbrook, Totley Moss, Longshaw, White Edge
not quite ten miles, similar route to August but felt much much better, followed the trods between the stoops back down to Barbrook, that was fun

Big Moor route

Tuesday Sep 27, 2016 #

6 PM

running 31:33 [3] 6.0 km (5:16 / km) +80m 4:56 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Oker Loop (short plus)
felt unusually lively so grabbed a quick one before the light faded, continued to the bottom of our hill to add some distance

Monday Sep 26, 2016 #

6 PM

running 1:23:30 [2] 11.77 km (7:06 / km) +340m 6:12 / km
shoes: Inov8 Race Ultra 290

Dethick, Riber, Bow Wood, Lea Wood, Lea
damp and half dark, slippy too through Bow wood, struggled a bit approaching the hour mark, but not too bad

Sunday Sep 25, 2016 #

10 AM

Orienteering race 1:01:47 [5] 7.93 km (7:47 / km) +240m 6:46 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Chinley Churn, Short Brown
ran quite well, not many mistakes across the field, so this was good evidence of how poor my form is compared with my peers

I made the map but it's been over a year since I set foot on the area

#17 didn't realize how close the second crag would be to the first [15]
#18 slightly high and had to pause to check [30]

7th, 10mins behind Clive

Chinley Churn

2 PM

Kite Hanging/Collecting 6:30 [2] 1.0 km (6:30 / km) +20m 5:55 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

jog to the finish on the way to collect controls, walked most of that

Friday Sep 23, 2016 #

5 PM

running 37:52 [3] 7.06 km (5:22 / km) +120m 4:57 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Oker Loop
brisk one before dinner, felt okay, but not much reward for the effort, only a minute or so faster than my slowest, though I did have wait for traffic at Darley Bridge, saw two foxes

Thursday Sep 22, 2016 #

6 PM

running 58:29 [3] 11.0 km (5:19 / km) +160m 4:57 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 190

Stanton Spirals
blowing a bit at the outset, but it got easier and it got even easier after I had to stop to - ahem - lighten my load, so to speak, lovely sunset

10 AM

Mapping 2:00:00 [0] 2.0 km (1:00:00 / km) +20m 57:09 / km
(sick)

mapping St Benedict Academy, always forget that schools only want to use their fields for orienteering and not their complicated buildings

Tuesday Sep 20, 2016 #

Note
(sick)

slightly better today, definitely an allergy as I find when I woke, but the sinuses began to complain mid-morning and the headached followed, purchased a spray (Sudafed) and that sorted it

Sunday Sep 18, 2016 #

12 PM

Orienteering race 49:32 [5] 5.93 km (8:21 / km) +49m 8:01 / km
(sick) shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Hurstwood, Short Brown
struggled physically, couldn't achieve any kind of pace, without also losing mental capacity, and as I had to be back home by 4.15, I cut my losses, not really sure what's wrong

#1 neglected to adhere to my bearing, drifted high, distracted by Scott Collier who was even further up [3mins]

Saturday Sep 17, 2016 #

Note
(sick)

Not so much a head cold as an allergy: inflamed sinuses, leading to headaches, dehydration, and a desire to nod off

Friday Sep 16, 2016 #

6 PM

running 1:00:06 [3] 11.05 km (5:26 / km) +150m 5:06 / km
(sick) shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 190

started moderately, but got into decent rhythm after about 4km, cooler this evening

Thursday Sep 15, 2016 #

6 PM

running 38:49 [3] 7.03 km (5:31 / km) +120m 5:05 / km
(sick) shoes: Inov8 Race Ultra 290

Oker Loop
sinuses inflamed so didn't risk a long one, very warm (22°), and very slow, possibly my slowest ever time on this route

shoes: Inov8 Race Ultra 290

Winster, Aldwark, Pikehall (almost), Elton
quads really tight after the Kinder run, also a touch of a head cold, but it was going to be warm out, didn't feel strong, but better than last week, slow at the end

Saturday Sep 10, 2016 #

6 PM

running hills 1:53:21 [3] 14.57 km (7:47 / km) +650m 6:22 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Hollins Cross, Edale, Grindsbrook Clough, Ringing Roger
hill run from Odin's Mine to Kinder and back, a scramble at the end of the clough, beautiful evening, but nothing left in the tank on the last climb (no engine), the descent was by moonlight

6 PM

running 56:36 [3] 10.14 km (5:35 / km) +150m 5:12 / km

Monday Sep 5, 2016 #

6 PM

running 1:11:51 [2] 10.66 km (6:44 / km) +230m 6:05 / km
shoes: Inov8 Race Ultra 290

Old Brompton, Linacre, Holymoorside
the strains and niggles from the weekend weren't in evidence, the problem was energy, really laboured, and I was glad for the opportunity to keep the run short

Sunday Sep 4, 2016 #

10 AM

Orienteering (urban) 55:49 [5] 10.56 km (5:17 / km) +60m 5:08 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Hitogami 2

Liverpool Urban, Men's Veterans
pretty interesting, though disappointed with the use of the docks at the end, felt okay at the start but faded badly after half-an-hour [or 10mins!] and this will show in the results, I fear

#16 ran down the wrong path for 15m, easily done [10]

13th, 6mins down on Stephen Lang, all speed :(

Saturday Sep 3, 2016 #

8 AM

Core Conditioning 10:00 [0]

KV's core-conditioning

1 PM

Orienteering 1:22:15 [5] 10.81 km (7:37 / km) +60m 7:24 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Ainsdale Dunes, Short Brown
rain, which limited ability to read the map, a lot of simplification , loved the area, despite the rain and the surprisingly tough going, which was hard to predict (sometimes the flat areas were good, sometimes not), a long course which tested my fitness and found it wanting

#8 narrow miss right, problem with attack angle from thicket, checked a depression to the west [60]
#9 hesitant - hoping there was a path this side of the fence, found some grot [30]
#11 off-line right, found unmarked thicket (looking for thicket), mistook fences [180]
#14 missed fractionally left, position of pit didn't seem right to me [30]
#15 aimed off [20]
#18 tried to line up with open area, didn't work, was shocked by massive re-entrant, took awhile to locate [60]
#19 attacked too soon, slow and messy into control [60]
#26 took on the dune but came off below control (couldn't read map), around a better route [40]

16th, 21mins behind Alisdair Pedley, 12m behind Andy thorpe

7 PM

running warm up/down 18:00 [3] 3.34 km (5:23 / km) +50m 5:01 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Hitogami 2

around Morledge and down the Derwent before intervals, feeling heavy-legged

running intervals 17:17 [5] 3.0 km (5:46 / km) +10m 5:40 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Hitogami 2

3 x 1km, off 90secs: 4.18 4.14 4.13

a long way from where I was early summer, couldn't muster the intensity, not very fluid and definitely feeling yesterday's run, last of the intervals was along the Derwent

running warm up/down 6:40 [2] 1.05 km (6:21 / km) +25m 5:40 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Hitogami 2

easy job all the way back
