7 PM

running warm up/down 16:16 [3] 3.36 km (4:50 / km) +70m 4:23 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 7

longer warm up than usual while I made up my mind whether the blister was going to be aggravated by the run - it was hurting/rubbing more than expected

running intervals 20:08 [5] 4.0 km (5:02 / km) +5m 5:00 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 7

4 x 1km, off 90secs: 3.45 3.56 3.57 3.58

not bad, good to get out after a few days under the weather

running 9:23 [2] 1.57 km (5:59 / km) +25m 5:32 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 7

easy jog home, calfs tight, but not as tight as they were on Tuesday so not too worried

Core Conditioning 25:00 [0]

KV's core conditioning, lower body stretches and hip stretches

Monday Apr 27, 2015 #

6 PM

running 1:19:57 [2] 12.57 km (6:22 / km) +350m 5:35 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 190

Pilsley, Rowland, Lonstone Edge, Bank Wood
easy run, though I felt a bit frisky due to recent lack of exercise, some stiff climbs, sun come out, no pain from the 'blister', only discomfort, but right calf is tight as a result of the hobbling around

Sunday Apr 26, 2015 #

Note
(injured)

Decided - at the last minute - not to run at Black Rocks. Helped at start, but as soon as I put the O-shoes on (both Jalas and Oroc's) could feel the blister was going to get rubbed raw. Decided not to risk it. Slightly frustrating as I have rested for the past two days and it seemed to have healed. Didn't think I was going to miss much. I'll probably run tomorrow evening.

Thursday Apr 23, 2015 #

Note
(injured)

the blister was okay on the run but the plaster came off and the sore was open again, the new plaster didn't stay in place during the surveying, which hampered my progress especially up the slopes, hobbling around now

10 AM

running (terrain and trails) 1:02:28 [3] 8.73 km (7:09 / km) +270m 6:12 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 190

Chinley Churn
a loop around the Chinley map before surveying, a bit of feature checking as I went, hard work to begin with and it didn't get much better, really sucking the air in

12 PM

Mapping 3:00:00 [1] 4.0 km (45:00 / km) +100m 40:00 / km
shoes: Jalas FLX

steep and complicated

Wednesday Apr 22, 2015 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

took another day off to let the blister heal (it's not so much a blister as a sore on the achilles)

Core Conditioning 25:00 [0]

KV's core conditioning, lower body stretches, and hip stretches

shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Starkholmes, Riber HIllside, Tansley
lovely evening, nice firm paths, bluebells coming out, lots of climb tonight but handled it really well despite being tired after the weekend

11 AM

Orienteering race (relay) 41:10 [5] 5.4 km (7:37 / km) +110m 6:55 / km
shoes: Jalas FLX

BOC Relays, Cannop Ponds, Men's Short
fairly good run but could've been better, strong at the end

#1 wrong angle coming off indistinct path, approached flag on marsh first [20]
#2 slightly wayward early in leg [10]
#4 went around the green, other times suggest runners took the plunge [30]
#5 overshot fractionally [10]
#6 hesitant, flag seemed further away from stream than it should have been [20]
#9 opted for straight, using veg boundary as guide, crossed it without seeing it, went to the one on the track, didn't see the other one on the way back down either [80]
#13 saw the flag but it was very close to the track so hesitated [10]

very satisfying to bring the team into the lead, pity that Andy Sykes had his worst run in 5-6 years and blew a very likely podium position

Saturday Apr 18, 2015 #

12 PM

Orienteering race 1:24:06 [5] 10.4 km (8:05 / km) +300m 7:04 / km
shoes: Inov8 mudclaw 300

British Champs, New Beechenhurst
another solid run, just a handful of very minor misses and maybe a route choice error or two, but way off the pace, got bad blisters on both heels from my nearly Mudclaws, a slight stitch on the way to #9, also a bit dehydrated, didn't expect the race to be so long

#2 stayed on the ride, attacked from the small footpath, but control was easy, straight would've been better [15]
#3 tried to go straight after track junction but wood turned out to be rough and ended up at the track anyway [30+]
#9 overshot slightly [15]
#14 puzzled by map/terrain on other side of the heap [10]
#16 through the mid-green was okay, but pushed left, so not sufficiently shorter than track/runnable option [30]
#19 a touch right [10]
#20 a touch left [15]

stamina: tired on way to #12, v slow to #16, better after that but not fast

18th, 15mins behind JL, 45secs behind Frostbite

shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

3 x 2km, off 90secs: 8.25 8.30 8.35

good session, conditions were ideal, firm ground, no dogs, no wind, warm

running warm up/down 3:45 [1] 0.5 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

short jog to warm down before driving home

very nice, firm ground, good views, easy pace, put in an effort to the top of Wetton Hill as I knew we'd be pausing there

Saturday Apr 11, 2015 #

8 AM

running warm up/down 14:43 [2] 2.66 km (5:32 / km) +25m 5:17 / km

9 AM

running 19:54 [5] 5.0 km (3:59 / km) +45m 3:49 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 7

Whitworth Thread
they started early! only 15secs, but it meant I was straight into the race and didn't have time to reset the watch, started fast to get through the field and then settled down, let the pace drop too much on the second lap, but didn't struggle at all on the third and responded well when pushing on the last, wasn't racing anybody and could have gone quicker

Mapping 3:00:00 [1] 4.0 km (45:00 / km) +100m 40:00 / km
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 340

first survey day at Chinley Churn: I think this will be more challenging for the cartographer than the orienteer

5 PM

running 1:12:21 [3] 11.25 km (6:26 / km) +245m 5:48 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Great Longstone, Bleaklow, Longstone Moor
lovely run in soft afternoon sunshine with the ground firming up after last week's rain, easy

Wednesday Apr 8, 2015 #

running (terrain and trods) 24:53 [3] 4.05 km (6:09 / km) +85m 5:34 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Stanton Moor
brisk session across the heather, straight lines, picking out trods and easier ways through, forgot to take the Garmin so tucked the phone in my pocket and used Runkeeper

enjoyable, good clean run, mostly on my own, just a matter of keeping concentration

10th (team), overtaking CLOK on the line

Saturday Apr 4, 2015 #

2 PM

Orienteering race 1:09:44 [5]
shoes: Jalas FLX

JK Individual, Day 1, Ulpha Park & Barrow Fell
struggled to get going, weak through the first loop, faster on the moor (relatively-speaking), like so many couldn't travel fast enough through the terrain, by the time I crossed the bridge I was pooped, but this was a clean run, if a little hesitatnt/slow

23rd, 13mins behind JL

Friday Apr 3, 2015 #

2 PM

Orienteering race 16:37 [5] 3.54 km (4:42 / km) +20m 4:34 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 7

JK Sprint, Lancaster Uni
clean run, slow start, but reasonable if not sensational pace thereafter, pleased to note I was 2nd fastest over the last three splits, stubbornly stuck with road shoes despite the rain (mistake)

time loss: map stuck to pavement at start, collided with Graeme Ackland coming out of #1, paused to check route to #13

12th, 55secs behind Kevin Fielding, 4secs ahead of James Logue

JK Sprint Lancaster Campus
