7 AM

running 27:43 [3] 5.4 km (5:08 / km) +3m 5:07 / km

Alassio
the other way along the Lungomare, an hour earlier: but still terribly warm for an Englishman, ran a bit further than yesterday, maybe if I get up at 6 ...

(the public beach was already packed)

Saturday Jun 25, 2011 #

8 AM

running 18:55 [3] 3.7 km (5:07 / km)

Alassio
thought I'd test out the routes along the front with a short run east up to the port, didn't even make it that far, half-eight in the morning and it was on the edge of being too hot, not feeling great after yesterday's journey either

good to get out there though

Friday Jun 24, 2011 #

Note

Leaving for Italy this morning, two weeks of teaching English in Liguria (on the coast) and a few days in Milan, taking my running shoes and kit, but will I manage to beat the business and the heat and get out there?

Thursday Jun 23, 2011 #

5 PM

running 1:05:05 [3] 10.66 km (6:06 / km) +380m 5:11 / km

Farley Hill, Upper Lumsdale, Tansley, Matlock Bank
Not so much 'boom' this time, felt heavy legged for most of the way, and managed to run into a dead end in the council car park, which didn't help

let the pace drop in upper Lumsdale (over 8 minute kms for that leg) so I could pick my way around the old wooded quarries, and enjoy the shade as I'd gone out early and it was warm

7 PM

Orienteering 10:57 [4] 2.22 km (4:56 / km) +20m 4:43 / km

Hall Leys Park & Pic Tor
little route choice session with Stuart Thomson, pity I won't be around for the subsequent sessions in areas I'm less familiar with, good brisk run though

Tuesday Jun 21, 2011 #

7 PM

running 38:37 [3] 6.15 km (6:17 / km) +140m 5:38 / km

Stanton Moor
steady run along the tracks and paths (overgrown with bracken), not as fast as I had hoped, kept it going on the hills

evening sunshine around the Nine Maidens, actually, I avoided those lovelies as it's the solstice and the pseudo-pagans were camped out there

Monday Jun 20, 2011 #

1 PM

running 39:07 [3] 6.74 km (5:48 / km) +100m 5:24 / km

Ocker Loop (short)
didn't feel too bad, kept going up the hill slightly further than before, didn't expect the sun to come out again, it was damned warm out there

Sunday Jun 19, 2011 #

12 PM

Walking 1:45:00 [1] 8.0 km (13:08 / km)

Wolfscote Dale, Beresford Dale, Hartington
a Sunday walk with my brother-in-law part one: from Milford up to Hartington

no aerobic value, but a steady pace

2 PM

Walking 1:40:00 [1] 8.0 km (12:30 / km)

Hartington, Biggins Dale, Milford Dale
a sunday walk with my brother-in-law part two: back to Milford via Biggins Dale

began to feel it in the old legs by the end

Friday Jun 17, 2011 #

7 PM

running tempo 41:48 [4] 7.41 km (5:38 / km) +45m 5:28 / km

Farley Moor
drove up to the top and ran around the (sort of) perimeter of the wood, in the reverse direction to Tuesday, good place to run in the rain, kept it going quite well, except when I landed flat on my face

how time passes more quickly when I'm in a wood with a map in my hand!

Thursday Jun 16, 2011 #

Note
(sick)

feeling drained, glands up: seven days of running in a row, plus the stress and disrupted eating patterns of supervising a (little) event?

Wednesday Jun 15, 2011 #

6 PM

running 30:00 [1]

Hall Leys Park & Pic Tor
various bits of running when putting out, checking on and collecting controls for the DVO evening event, plus a rescue mission for a lost 14-year-old (successful)

distance covered unknown

Tuesday Jun 14, 2011 #

7 PM

running tempo 1:01:26 [4] 10.59 km (5:48 / km) +225m 5:15 / km

Farley Moor
up the hill, across the top of Matlock, around the far edge of Farley Moor and back down the road

good progress up the hill, petered out when I turned into the wood, bit steep, great contour detail, started to feel rough (like I wanted to take a dump), but had to keep going, slowed up on a path that was more like a ride, it was (almost) all downhill from there, thankfully

warm evening, a lot of sweat

Monday Jun 13, 2011 #

6 PM

running 27:45 [3] 3.86 km (7:11 / km) +30m 6:55 / km

Whitesprings
went for a pootle about in Whitesprings (and Seventy Acre Plantation), very easy, showed I was right to ignore the stiffness in the knees, should've extended the run really, but I'd slowed right up trying to cut through a bit of 'walk' (without gaitors)

10 AM

Orienteering race 19:06 [4] *** 2.8 km (6:49 / km) +20m 6:35 / km
spiked:14/17c

Macclesfield Town & Country: Prologue
blew it on the 2nd control, but not the way many people did, didn't get to grips with the map quick enough, chose the wrong route, ran past the turning, a couple of other misses, one because the dibber/flag was accessible from outside the fence, when I had - correcty - run around

didn't run fast enough, but it was only the prologue ...

12 PM

Orienteering race 26:48 [5] *** 4.0 km (6:42 / km) +55m 6:16 / km
spiked:20/21c

Macclesfield Town & Country: Final
not a bad run at all, hesitant on 1, partly due to the slippery paths downhill, not too slow back up the hill, picked the wrong route on the big leg - didn't look closely enough at the ways through the park, went right instead, kept it going well ...

... until I cut through a gap in the green surrounding the last control and got sent back by a woman standing at the finish, only to watch half-a-dozen other competitors ignore her (excepting for her son)

that's gonna cost me some 'precious' ranking points ;)

Saturday Jun 11, 2011 #

12 PM

Orienteering race 54:27 [5] *** 4.9 km (11:07 / km) +240m 8:56 / km
spiked:18/19c

MDOC Town & Country Weekend: Macclesfield North
my first middle distance race and it was just like a classic only without time for much pure running, and with the inclines, there wasn't time for any running on too many occasions

good to have rigorous navigational challenge, spiked all but one control, which was 20m up the spur from where it should've been, could have made better route choices in some instances

finished 14mins behind Ian Embrey (who's 42nd in the rankings), will that performance get me back into the 1100's?

Friday Jun 10, 2011 #

5 PM

running tempo 26:04 [3] 4.77 km (5:28 / km) +80m 5:03 / km

Hall Leys Park / Pic Tor
ran the 'challenge sprint' course I've planned for next wednesday, to check control sites and the actual length, felt very 'breathy' again, the allergy has not gone, must be something else

(the actual length is 70% longer than the course distance - Hee, hee!)

Thursday Jun 9, 2011 #

7 PM

running 40:55 [3] 6.95 km (5:53 / km) +100m 5:30 / km

Ocker Tree Loop (short)
lovely evening, legs felt good, but breathing ... not so good, slowed to a walk going up the hill at Ocker, again

much faster time than the first attempt at this loop

Wednesday Jun 8, 2011 #

Orienteering race 51:00 [4] 4.5 km (11:20 / km) +270m 8:43 / km

Army Harris Score Event
Didn't enjoy this much. The format - team score - was too chaotic, for my taste and the terrain was tough. Hilly, heather, and steep gulleys, hardly got going at all.

Sunday Jun 5, 2011 #

Orienteering race 1:03:28 [5] *** 6.5 km (9:46 / km) +170m 8:38 / km
spiked:23/29c

Nopesport Nottingham City Race
quite a good run, challenging course: we ran 50% over the course distance, forgot to turn the Garmin on but I heard Karl Marshall ran 10.8km and I didn't take any short cuts ... so 11km/63mins doesn't look so bad

undone by the underpass after 13, was tiring and very grateful for a bit of shade, switched off and ran past the steps and saw they'd forbidden any further progress in that direction

most of my mistakes due to fatigue these days ...

Friday Jun 3, 2011 #

6 PM

running tempo 19:58 [3] 3.78 km (5:17 / km)

Forty-Six Acre Wood
quick run before tonight's barbeque, it was going to be too hot to take to the roads or the moors, but in the shade of a nice wood ... a pleasure

Wednesday Jun 1, 2011 #

7 PM

Orienteering tempo 19:13 [3] 3.08 km (6:14 / km) +30m 5:57 / km

Hall Leys Park & Pic Tor
planning a local event here so decided to test out the 'long' sprint course: 2km as the crow flies, but I ran over 3km. Not bad.

Felt a bit tired after yesterday's efforts and my pace was slower! So didn't run the course twice to try out the alternative routes. Another day.

running warm up/down 20:00 [2] 2.5 km (8:00 / km) +20m 7:42 / km

steady jog/stretch on the way, stroll/jog on the way back
