Orienteering race 37:42 [5] 4.2 km (8:59 / km) +220m 7:07 / km
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 340

British Middle Distance, M45
moderate, hesitant over the first few (tiny depressions, or pits), had to really work to get any pace going, caught by Billenicus at #13, which helped the pace, stayed with him thanks to him missing #17, but lost sight after the hill at #23, deranged coming out of the light green section and blew a few places :(

#1 couldn't see the flag or the micro-pit [20]
#2 off-line right [as usual], again hard to spot the pit [40]
#7 a better line might've been down the re-entrant, hesitant (slow) climing the spur [20]
#8 (slow) [10]
#10 found 11 first [20]
#12 slightly distracte by seeing Jon Cross going in an odd direction, turned off the 'elephant track' and wandered into some bracken, realised the spur ahead really was the one wanted [40]
#13 better line left to the crossing [10]
#19 cautious [10]
#21 stayed high, too high [10]
#26 like many, distracted by control in the niche/depression, continued left, attracted by a piece of red plastic [40]
#28 didn't really have a plan, should've erred to the right of the ridge with the fields in sight, but missed the veg boundary altogether and overshot [80]

total: 5mins

on 'times without mistakes' it's unusual for me to gain places, but today I would've been 5th (ahead of JD)

9th, 7mins behind Bill, and 1sec behind Jon Cross [I'd have been satisfied with 8th]
