Feeling quite reasonable after yesterdays hockey game I decided to do an H2. Something I havn't done for quite a while (with good reason), but I needed to extend myself before we went over east for the nationals.
Not one for mass starts - too much of an adrenaline shot I head out later. I decide straight up not to do controls 1 & 3, which saved me a lot of distance. However I forgot to warm up and my first two legs 2 & 4 were very slow. On to 5 I drop too low and misread the map ending up south of my control and wondering where was I? 4m mistake. At Control 6 I was within 5m - the map just did not read right. Was 15,000 not 10,000? the reason - I have not run on a 15,000 map in years. Even with glasses the detail is very hard to read. I would say I had to stop dead at least 10 times just to read the map
No further issues untill the leg from 16 to 17 when it started to rain consistently, covering the glasses and making the map impossible to read. After crossing teh creek and reading the map I through the water drops I come across Brian A standing in front of my control looking lost. In true European tradition he has to ask me where he is. By this stage I was too stuffed not to help and my shoelace had come undone.
From then on just a slog with hamstring now tightening up. This was the longest run I had done in a while. Thanks simmo for control 19 - very pretty spot
