Running long 4:30:00 [3]

2 laps at Sulphur Springs. Was entered in the 50 mile race, but the heat was too much for me to run that distance.

First lap I tried to take it easy and not go to hard. I probably still ran more hills than I should have given the heat, but I finished around 2 hours which is slower than any lap I did last year in the 50 km. On the second lap I tried to slow my pace, but around 3 hours I started to really struggle. Legs were tired and I felt awful. Up until this point I'd been good with my eating and taking salt pills and drinking lots of water. Ended up being sick with about 5 km to go on this lap. By this point I was just shuffling along the trail. Decided at this point that 50 miles was not in the cards.

Finished the lap, but I was cooked at that point so decided to call it a day. Stuck around to cheer Kristen on for her lap in the relay and then headed home. Finally started to feel better later in the evening after a nap and a lot of fluids.

Run home from work. Damn hot out there. I may just melt on Saturday.

Running 1:15:00 [3]

Normal route that goes down the main trail and then back along the Grand Valley trail.

However after a brief warm-up I rotated between 2 min all out effort and 2 min light jog to recover. I did 15 reps of this and then afterwards I just struggled home feeling pretty worn out.
