I was looking forward to a 2.5 hour run/hike on the Hockley Valley trails while 'Bent ran - my biggest effort since surgery. I used to run those trails all the time and I really miss them. But apparently I didn't tuck my Salomon shoelace into the lace garage properly. In my first few steps, the loose lace hooked my other shoe and I went down instantly and HARD on pavement, taking much of the impact on my nose.

I knew it wasn't good so I scrambled back to the van, falling a 2nd time on gravel because I was so stressed that I forgot to fix the damned lace. Between the two falls, I bruised my quad and scraped both palms, luckily missing the surgery incision by an inch. I texted 'Bent while I managed the nosebleed. After a search of Emerg Dept wait times, we opted for Southlake hospital in Newmarket - a little farther but a much shorter wait and a larger hospital.

I was in and out in an hour - surprisingly efficient because they triage people like me to their urgent care department. The doc said I broke my nose and I shouldn't blow it for a week - which was literally ALL I had done for the first hour after I fell. I'm just supposed to ice it a bit and let it heal because it seems to be in the right position. 'Bent is supposed to check on me every 3-4 hours in case I get a concussion after smashing my head (just the nose) on asphalt but it's not considered a high risk. I should check in with my family doc after a week.

Ugh. But I have no pain unless I touch it and even then, it's 1/10. My scraped hands interfere more with daily activities and my bruised quad is ridiculously sore. But as for my most serious injury? Mostly, it just makes me more colourful.

Running (Road) 1:00 [1] 0.08 km (11:54 / km)

I'm saving this just so I have the GPS track of my Broken Nose adventure. I sure didn't make it very far!

Living With Covid: Because 'Bent's sister's work colleagues had a welcome home party for an overseas traveller and one of them came to work with symptoms and a negative RAT (never assume it's a cold!), we shifted the Ehrlich Family Passover Seder to his Mom's back yard in Toronto instead of our deck in Kolapore. This meant no one had to share a vehicle. The last two Seders happened on Zoom so it was still a big improvement in spite of the high wind gusts that spilled wine and blew 'Bent's kippah (skull cap) into my chicken soup.

We set up three distanced tables for five people, one table per household, and put up canopies for the forecast rain. We wore masks when we weren't eating or drinking. Seder is a long ceremony with a lot of readings, prayers and songs.

No masks for eating and drinking at the table. 'Bent's sister, who had the low risk Covid exposure at work, still wore a face shield.

The dogs were having much more fun than the photos show. Seder with Squirrels!! This was the best!!

'Bent led the ceremony with the Seder plate in front of him. Note the CO2 monitor to make sure our ventilation was as good as we hoped it was.

Chag Sameach to my Jewish friends!

Hand Therapy #1 - Not what I'd pictured - there are no exercises. We bend our fingers constantly in daily life so they need more stretching for full range of motion. The OT made a sleep splint for the left 4th and 5th fingers, to be used for 4-6 months. It wasn't as uncomfortable for sleeping as it looked and my hand felt like a million bucks in the morning. Next appointment is for scar management - too soon for that yet.

Stitches are out of my palm! Hand therapy starts on Thursday. (Who knew?) The doc confirmed that I'm still on track to ride a bike in two weeks. Big smile.
