'Bent and I celebrated Canada Day by parking at the lookout just south of Kimberley and slowly running a loop on Bruce main/side trails on both sides of the Beaver Valley. The extreme heat warning meant we had the trails to ourselves although we encountered a few people near some swimming holes enroute.

We'd both frozen our hydration bladders but - incredibly - 'Bent's refused to thaw even after 2.5 hours and he ran out of water. We actually had to take a break to leave it lying out in the sun on a black background - but even that didn't result in a lot of melting so he had to share my delicious ice water. I think my secret was forgetting to put the bladder in the freezer until 9 p.m. instead of doing it earlier in the day.

We had a terrific lunch at the Kimberley General Store where I inhaled a chocolate milkshake in about 30 seconds! Then we took the dogs for a walk on leash in Georgian Bay at Sunset Point Beach. We just learned that it's legal - yay! Lots of people were out enjoying the holiday weather. We followed that up with music in the park in Thornbury. Full tourist experience this weekend!

Amber and I parked at the bottom of 12th Sideroad south of Collingwood and climbed up to a loop that included Bruce main/side trails and went into Pretty River Provincial Park. It was crazy hot. Supposedly this is the most extreme hot weather event in the past few years. My iPhone got so hot in my pack pocket that it disabled itself. I sat in a rushing creek near the end and it felt fantastic!

2 PM

Mountain Biking (Trail) 1:38:11 [2] 26.4 km (16.1 kph) +36m

After lunch and a swim, our neighbour Dennis acted as our bike tour guide around the trails and waterfront of Collingwood, stopping for ice cream at Sunset Point Park. We had no idea there were so many local trails that are shady, pleasant and uncrowded - more interesting than the Georgian Trail. It didn't even feel that hot with the breeze and the trees. Lots of fun!

Paddling (Canoe) 52:00 [2] 5.09 km (5.9 kph)
slept:5.25

Easy paddle on Georgian Bay with 'Bent and AdventureDog. We headed east from Princeton Shores and explored around Lighthouse Point. AdventureDog cooled down first with a good swim. He kept standing up in the canoe, which is, of course, against the rules. The water was cold and fortunately, we didn't go for a swim!

6 PM

Running (Trail) 36:23 intensity: (10:00 @2) + (16:23 @3) + (10:00 @4) 4.45 km (8:10 / km) +207m 6:38 / km
shoes: Salomon XT6 Softground

After over-shopping at the Squire John's Tent Sale, 'Bent and I went for a quick up-and-down of The Grind at Blue Mountain before dinner.
