Fun, chatty run/hike with poles in Pretty River Provincial Park with Funderstorm. It was foggy and mysterious for much of the morning - like being in a forest in Middle Earth. Absolutely beautiful. :)

After 103K last weekend, my main goal today was just to do some climbing. The running part was less important. We started out by taking the Bruce Trail to its highest point, which is on the John Haight side trail. (If you did the Snowshoe Raid, you may have visited this control location.) After that, we just winged it until finally we didn't really know where we were. I pulled out my iPhone and even fired up its compass, which hasn't happened before. I was carrying 3 maps but they were tucked away in my pack until then since it didn't really matter where we went. It *did* matter that we got back to the car eventually though!

'Bent and BGY went on their own separate run. More running, more poison ivy, less chat. Whatever floats your boat, I guess. ;) To their great surprise, they ran into Goose and Coach LD - twice! We didn't see them but apparently they heard us. Wonderful morning!

Note

Mom is at her 60th annual (!) university class reunion this weekend. She'll also attend the dinner with Dad's class as usual. Back in those days, before it was officially called the University of Guelph, a lot of Ontario Agricultural College men married teachers or dieticians from my Mom's class at MacDonald Institute, so there's considerable overlap between the two class reunions.

Our university class was close but we mostly fell out of touch. I can't imagine how wonderful it must be for people in their 80s to spend a weekend with people they met when they were 18 and have known through ups and downs of six decades of life. I'm raising a glass to them tonight.

Expedition Africa is over so I will sleep better tonight! :)

Core, a little upper body and some physio. Thumbs-of-Death worked on my shoulder and neck. I think this shoulder thing will be a lifelong work in progress.

ESAR team mountain bike training at Hardwood Hills, aka an excuse for a road trip with the ever-knowledgeable Dee and Mrs. Gally. Beautiful sunshine, great trails and a moderate temperature - perfect! I stayed at the back since I knew my top gear would be missing after the weekend but my legs weren't too bad. We made the mistake of trying the advanced level Gnarly Trail, not realizing that top riders were pre-riding the Canada Cup course today. After the 3rd young guy flew past us on the trail, we abandoned our plan and went back to the west side, where we had the trails to ourselves. Looking forward to ESAR in this great location!

Bike computer distance. My Ambit wouldn't measure distance for our first loop of the Serious trail but it started working for the Crank'd Trail. Weird.

Running (Trail) 25:00 [2] 2.36 km (10:37 / km) +61m 9:24 / km

Short run/walk around Glen Haffy as a tour guide for Dana, who was checking it out as a possible ARK location. Looks good to me if DGL can get permissions.

Power Yoga 23:00 [1]

Rodney Yee - Power Yoga for Flexibility. I seem to have emerged relatively unscathed from my long run.

Phew, after 36 hours, the major neck pain is gone except for a point pain on the medial end of my collarbone. Dr. Google suggests that the guilty party may have been the sternocleidomastoid muscle - a new word for me, probably not much use in Scrabble.

I've booked a torture session with Dr. Thumbs-of-Death for Friday - no way I'd go when the pain was as intense as yesterday. For some reason, it only occurred to me now that my right shoulder is probably positioned so differently because I broke that collarbone as a child. I'll bet there is lots of scar tissue.

I'd planned to do something active today but last night, 48 hours after finishing the race, I got a severe pain running from my collar bone up the side of my neck and out toward my bad shoulder - or maybe it was moving in the opposite direction. Things are improving but still sore. I think it's my bad shoulder complaining about 16 hours of arm swinging. Strange, you'd think my legs might hurt but they're pretty good!
